Sastre's Giro over, or does anyone think he can come back from this?
Too early to tell for sure I think especially considering how brutal the last week of the Giro is. My gut feeling is that he's toast.

That was mostly toward the end. I guess Basso recovered somewhat. Early on it was Nibali towing Basso.

I think I even remember a moment when the 2 joined another duo, Nibali moved to the front to up the pace, and basically rode of the front, only to look back and wait for Basso.

well i agree but TFF tried to pick a fight so i had to respond.. The sniveling person should be banned.

Everybody else is OK here but he's a ****, its a shame because it ruins it for everybody else.

I didn't try to pick a fight. I pointed out [edited by mod] There is little debate in that.

There are only about two GC contenders left to throw out the window now, so I don't see how it'll be getting better. This should be as easy as taking candy from a baby for Evans now. Let Vino keep pink as long as possible, then wait for him to blow up.

This would have been an absolutely killer one-week race though.

Nibali and Basso are within 45 secs of Cadel, and the split today was caused by the fall not by people fatiguing. It has happened before and it will happen again nothing stopping it from continuing from being an exciting race. 20 secs bonus and it all gets very close again.

I hope Basso remembers well what a sacrifice has Nibali done for him today-and quite frankly-if he falters in the mountains, just let him go

I saw that too. It was almost as Nibali was going to drop Basso but then changed his mind and slowed down some, so Basso could catch up! Basso was cracking big time today! I think he will have some problems tomorrow too, unless he pulls a Flandis on our asses!

Thanks for that spoiler. Really, thank you. Great thinking, very considerate.

Can we make this officially the first and last time you're ruining the pleasure of others?

I agree it's still wide open. There are way too many vertical miles left to consider anyone a near certainty. Obviously Vino and Evans are in the box seat though.

If there wasn't the crash, Nibali would've been reasonably close to the first group, not so sure about Basso. I don't think Liquigas/Basso deserve criticism though, he is their leader here and is still their best option.

All in all not too bad by Mollema/Weening. Bakelandts and Scarponi - who came from gruppo Nibali/Basso did awesome. Very good ride by Millar as well, like Porte and Larsson

All that hard work by KAT for Pozzato (ACF didn't you tip him with Evans ;)

Wow! That was muddy!
Or, as one of the Danish commentators said, "Today they all look like riders from the Footon-Serveto team!"

Basso was cracking several times, each time at a reasonably steep part of the climbs Nibali rode away from him with ease, only to wait time and time again. If it weren't for Basso, I think Nibali would have at least finished within a minute and a half. I think its time for a rethinking at liquigas about the roles. Nibali is a reasonable amount stronger than Basso at this point and it would be a shame for Nibali to forsake his GC aspirations due to the fact that he needs to help Basso

not sure on that one, but yes still looked strong at the end when encouraging young Porte, who looked smashed.
