Hahaha, Farrar only just getting his points jersey now, since he came in more than twenty minutes down. Cuddles is only 2 points behind him now and could conceivably take it off him tomorrow. Does anyone know how many points are on offer at the mountain top?

let's for a day pretend they are on a level playing field, it was a great race.
that would be nice wouldnt it!

I acually was a Vino fan and he was one of my favorites but like all those who have bans because of doping and come back I dont trust him as far as I could throw him anymore.

One of the best things about the thread for this stage was there was no thrash talking; now it is over people come in and start BSing. Get a life, it was an epic stage in a race that has had everything; lets hope it keep getting better.

There are only about two GC contenders left to throw out the window now, so I don't see how it'll be getting better. This should be as easy as taking candy from a baby for Evans now. Let Vino keep pink as long as possible, then wait for him to blow up.

This would have been an absolutely killer one-week race though.

What a fantastic stage. The Gazzetta dello Sport video stream is amazing as well. Evans looked really strong, I agree that Vino might have dug a tad too deep today. Tomorrow's stage will be telling I think.
Indeed-Tomorrow someone is going to pay for today's effort....but who cares? this Giro is getting more exiting than ever

Points jersey, not GPM. The points are the same on every stage. 25, 20, 16, 14, 12 then 10 down to 1. It's only the Tour that biases things in favour of sprinters (35 for the winner in flat stages, 25 in intermediate stages, 20 in mountain stages and 15 in time trials)

I think the rainbow jersey has something to do with it too.

Will be interesting to see how long he can hold this form for.
I expect him to run away with the giro.

new team also.

I think there is more than two contenders left in the Giro, the final week is just far too nasty to write anyone off yet.

Don't know exactly yet, but I think the commentary said he was now third in the youth classification. Obviously behind Porte, and probably Agnoli... Mean probably didn't lose much more than 6 minutes on Cadel... Else Bakelants would've overtaken him....

Not much comfort until we know the full results, but whatever.
Mollema finished together with Weening, surprisingly enough. Somewhere between 3 and 4 minutes back.

Nibali is still only seconds behind evans, though. Don't think he can win it, but certainly hope so.

agreed - BMC arent as strong as say Lotto or other teams but they are the only ones that are willing to pour their hearts out to work with and for Cadel

Same as always. The Giro doesn't discriminate between flat or mountain stages.

Ah, OK, I assumed the Giro had less points on mountain finishes too.

Everybody else is OK here [edited by mod] its a shame because it ruins it for everybody else.

From Buikje's website:

Good on Evans for that win. Great stage to watch.

Sastre's Giro over, or does anyone think he can come back from this?

Everyone seems to be saying that nibali should hav left basso, but i saw basso on front enough to think they were evenly trading turns.

That was mostly toward the end. I guess Basso recovered somewhat. Early on it was Nibali towing Basso.

As far as I can tell the Tour is the only race that does that. The Giro and Vuelta use the 25-20-16 system, as do a lot of shorter stage races. Some go with a 15-12-10-8-6 system, others like the Tour of Britain or the Szlakiem Grodów Piastkowich, just put one point differences in. All of them do not differentiate between types of stages.
