I put it in the stage thread, but the progress is so surprising that it's worth putting it here.

I suspect that the itt training and equipment is like 5x better at a top WT squad. Plus he probably had zero incentives to try to do a good itt at bardiani. Still, very promising!

Yes, and he was also really ill for ITT #1 last year.

Regardless, it was a good enough TT to turn him from climbing prospect to all-round GC prospect (on paper). Losing a minute (eg) over a flat 30km time trial is more than acceptable.

After today, RBH will certainly change tactics in the direction of “everything for a stage win”. I don't know whether it will be possible for groups to get through in the difficult final week. Especially as he doesn't have a huge loss yet. The course of the Giro fits into the whole season. Apart from Guilio and Lipo, nobody has been fully convincing. That's really worrying for the team management.

6 and a half minutes should be easily possible to get in the right move. After all today Rubio was being controlled but not to the extent of being hauled back by UAE as it was only with the Bernal attack that the gaps were slashed and Rubio was 2 minutes closer on GC than Pellizarri is now.

It's ok, his time will come. He's learning from one of the best and proving Red Bull management his talent and commitment.
Everything he's done in this Giro makes me think he's a future GT winner. And that doesn't happen often with Italian riders. In fact, the last Italian rider I thought would win a GT was Fabio Aru.

No regrets about joining Red Bull either, massive improvements compared to last year in basically every aspect of the sport.

Great support for Rogla but it's difficult to truly gauge where his level would be relative the rest of the front bunch if he was riding for himself.

For example he got dropped for a bit on San Pellegrino last week when things kicked off.

The helper role is currently just right. He can learn and has no pressure yet. The goal with him in the future is to ride towards the overall standings. Maybe even in GTs at some point. But one step at a time.

Similar to Lipowitz. After a few smaller races, the Dauphine should now be about the overall classification. Guilio and Lipo are the team's hopes for the future. Lorenzo Finn is thinking even further ahead.

Yeah, Finn is imo the future. One has to remember that UAE's first year as a sponsor was also not exactly great, even if they took over a clearly worse team and not a top 5/top 3 overall team like Bora.

When you watch Giulio in this Giro you really get angry cause they put him babysitting Rogla. He's got a wonderful shape, did you see how easy he was cycling yesterday?
Let's compare him to Tiberi. You could clearly see Tiberi was almost at his limit while Giulio just cruising.

Because Roglic has won 5 Grand Tours and is the only bet to win until proven otherwise?
