When it comes to German speaking commentators, I would add nearly all comments by Angermann (he was commentating on ZDF and later on ESP together with Tony Rominger and Carsten Migles).
He is a TdF commentator legend.

Angermann - he was always painting nice pictures, while sometimes forgetting the race itself. He was an expert in pointing out all the beauty and art of cycling, landscape and everything....especially beauty of Ullrich.
And he always felt with the riders and was very emotional, while beeing a poet and virtuoso at the same time.

My favorite comment:
Angermann: "As high as the rider's hematocritlevels, the mountains are piling up in front of them." :D

EPO-Toni and Migels always had to stop him and indirectly remind him that there is a race going on, but often Angermann just continued until his "picture" was finished.
(Sorry, but I just started.....but I was not finished yet)

Those were great and epic times.
Listen to Angermann preparing Alpe D'Huez.....they were so confident and euphoric that day, and then the WTF moment came and destroyed their beautiful day. :D

Migels: "Is it possible that..."

Angermann just interrupts and ignores him and starts painting:
"The helicopter now slowly gliding along that steep climb.....there we saw that massif in the back....there, riders have to go up....sorry Carsten, but i just started.....and 3 from Team Telekom are leading Jan Ullrich......Vinokourov, Klöden and Livingston....a Kazakh, an American and a Cottbuser......
EPO-Toni: "And getting support from Garcia Acosta...Ibanesto"
Angermann:"And there in the picture...the man in white...with the black, red and golden stripes....the German champion...Jan Ullrich...winner of TdF 97...3 times 2nd....worldchampion, olympic champion...he let us stew about state of his form....but today...he convinces all doubters and critics....hopefully till the top of the climb.......Carsten !!!
Migels: "Thats the profile....

later:
EPO-Toni: Now Rubiera is accelerating....now I can no longer understand the world....lol
Angermann: Ah, lets just wait....lets just wait....Ullrich keeps on sitting in the saddle, he has to keep his rhythm...

later when Lance attacked:
Toni: And..now...Lance just attacked, he is off.......Ullrich has......yeah he is gone. Thats unbelievable. (Angermann desperatly moaning from the back: "He is not dropped. Tony, Toooony...") Who would have thought....who would have thought...that he can still ride like that.
Angermann: "I don't think that Ullrich is gone"
Toni: "I didn't say that Ullrich is gone...but dropped....there he looks back"
Angermann screaming: "AND HOW HE USED TO LOOK...THAT WAS A PROVOCATION THAT LOOK...OF COURSE...THATS IMPRESSIVE"
--------------------------------------------------------------

Other (great) comments:

Klaus Angermann/Tony Rominger
"And Udo Bölts, the German champion comes to the finish." - "No, this is Dierckxens!" - "Ah, the Belgian champion, the colors are just upside down."

Angermann: "100km Solo on two"

Angermann: "Those two are at the front on their own now - together with the other six."

Angermann: "This is not an ulcer you can see at Belohvosciks - he just takes the helmet forward."

Angermann: "Virenque is sitting on four famous letters: COPPI - oh, no - it's even five."

Angermann: "Jörg Jaksche got 23 years old today. But he still remains the youngest rider in the peloton."

Angermann: "Erik Zabel in 2nd place, behind Steels and Kirsipuu."

etc. :)

1995 Tour de France. Charleroi-Liege.

And I'll give you his entire other career as example of why they shouldn't use Indurain as role model. Indurain was the least attacking cyclist I've probably ever seen. At least with that talent.

I can also give examples of where the Schlecks attacked. Probably attacked more than Indurain already in his entire career.

As explained, the role model thing was exclusively about managing a situation with numerical advantage. Anyway, Indurain attacked more than he gets credit for, that's all I was saying. I count La Plagne as an attack, for example, but he was similar to Cancellara in that he'd just accelerate and ride everyone off.

I've seen 1-2 attacks from the Schlecks already, so I doubt they're too dumb to do it. They were just broken mentally. Gilbert was probably also cranking a way higher gear than them. It's how he discouraged Leukemans from a final attack as well in the Brabantse Pijl.

There are 2 Schlecks, and only 1 Indurain.

Indurain also retired at 32 after 13 pro seasons.

Fränk is 31 and Andy 25 and they have 16 pro seasons between them (including 2011).

Can't help but think you're stacking the cards in their favour even before we take their characteristics as riders into account...

I can also count more attacks from Andy alone.

If they should learn from anyone it's the Italian national squad from 2006-2008 at the Worlds.

Phil: Oh! What is going ...
Paul: There's a problem with his pedals! He has a problem with his pedals.
Phil: This is what happened, I think. He pedal may have broken. This happened. He didn't hit anybody. It is a problem with his pedal.

Think the most ironic part of that commentary is at.. 3.30

Sherwin 'Never burn your bridges, Don't ever make enemies' :D

*Digs this up again*

Danish Eurosport Commentator: [Rider whose name I didn't quite catch] is contesting with some of the Androni guys for the title of smallest rider in the pack.

And yesterday one of the commentators made another funny one about a rider whose name I... have forgotten:

He is easy to recognize, he hardly reaches over the rail.

Harmon yesterday was commenting on being able to identify someone (Sella?) by the size of his ears, immediately followed by the phrase "and they're about to take off"

I then imagined a Dumbo style ascent by said rider, while my other half, overhearing the commentary, was left with a mental picture of his ears detaching themselves from his head, and hovering above the peloton.

But maybe that says more about our household than Harmon's commentary.

HAHA :p Somebody has just nailed a kazakh to the road, I'm sure there's plenty of you who would've liked to have done that in the last few years :p

This is why I HATE Harmon. He's so biased - I cannot stand his commentary.

C'mon dude it's hilarious :p Not even Belgian commentaters (apart from Vannieuwkerke maybe) are that biased :p

Wuyts is a pretty huge Armstrong fanboy. Lucily most people here don't understand what the f*ck he's saying or they would be throwing their tampons on here in anger :p

As opposed to Phill Ligget and Paul Sherwin who at the last two Tours have had their heads so far up Lance's behind that they didn't see what was actually happening in the race.

Even when he's not there they can't go 10 minutes without mentioning the Uniballer.
