Ya kinda enjoy their commentary, their actually not that bad but people think they suck just because of their accent and their enthusiasm. Kinda enjoy their enthusiasm

ROFL - it was terrific, wasn't it? Schlanger and Gogo get my vote - love both of them.

will10 - I can't stand Ligget. If I'm forced to stream Versus (like during Tdf) I use their video and stream a different audio. I just cannot listen to Versus.

It's Steve Schlanger and Todd "GoGo" Gogulski. Both Americans. Gogo was a racer himself and they're just fantastic together, just IMO, of course. They are not biased, they are funny and informative. Gogo talks daily to racers and directors so he has a nice inside scoop. They have very good timing together.

I'm a woman, so I'll admit it - Schlanger is cute. I also love his voice.

I watch them even on the most dullest of flat stages because they make the race interesting no matter what.

Yes, it was a positive surprise. Being from Europe myself i seldom hook up whats going on with american commentary. Having listened to Liggett/Sherwin too many hours i was pretty much, as a fan of Contador, afraid of what the yankees would sound like, given that these brits actually complains when he is going on the offensive.

It is always good when these kinds of prejudices turns out to be wrong.

Too me they sounded positive, entusiastic, passionate. As it should be.

It's an old fashioned term in Britain, but it doesn't carry quite the same connotations it does in the US. I hold no brief for Liggett, but it's worth pointing that out before he's tarred and feathered.

Well, the usual term in UK English is black. It's a bit old-fashioned to describe someone as coloured, but it doesn't carry the same vaguely racist air that it does in the US.

Leaving aside whether 'coloured' is to be considered racist or not (I'm English, so the correct answer is 'not') was he correct? I can't believe that it's taken until 2011 for the first non-white rider to take to the course.

Actually my first thought when hearing this Danish commentators called him coloured as well was basically "Eeeh. What about Beppu and Arashiro?" I might be wrong but isn't Asian "non-white" as well?

It's true that cycling is a very white sport (well, mostly it's a very European sport, except for some people from Central Asia who've been successful too and would probably "pass" as white to most people, Vino or Abdu for example), but that's not quite accurate. I'm sure racism played some part, but mostly it's cultural, which sports people from certain countries are most focused on.
