Greatest series ever? Pfft!

You're right when you say the next installment of the greatest series ever is coming soon though: on 18th November! After waiting 5 long years, but it will be worth it.

ot: I quit GTA after Vice City. Was a great game especially because I love the movie Scarface, but I didn't care much for San Andreas or GTA IV.

Will help to survive the offseason.

I always used to avoid trouble in that game and do next mission.....really :D .....but so many outrageous people on the streets. They walk into you, or even look at you. Some even talk to you....
And it ends with me sitting in an Apache, 6 stars, total destruction and military everywhere.

btw, when I think of the first GTAs....todays kids wouldn't even watch it. :D

Hope its full HD now.

Its only the trailer not the game. i doubt the game will come out in the off season. GTA 4 came out in May I think.

But the trailer is of huge importance, because it will likely reveal the city in which the game takes place, and the year it takes place in.

The city is of huge importance, as we will be spending so much time roaming the streets, we will be practically moving there.

And the date. Well, I never lived in the 80's

Until GTA vice city came out.

I also got a real good feel of what the early 90's were like in the US, in GTA San andreas. The music, the cars, the jokes, the political references the themes.

I really really hope its set in the past again. I already live in 2011, I want the game to be in some other era.

San Andreas is based on Mara Salvatrucha 13 and some other gangs. They should make a GTA about the Italian Mafia.

Is this a joke?

First of all in San Andreas the protagonist is a African American. He belongs to an African American gang called Grove Street who are sworn enemies with another African American gang called the Ballers. The mexican gangs play a minor roll and there is no salvadoran gang. (MS being from El Salvador).

The main themes are police corruption and the 1992 LA riots.

He then moves to San Francisco where the main gangs are Chinese and Vietnames, with 1 lesser Latin American gang.

Finally he moves to Las Vegas where 3 mafia families are waring over the Casino business.

Nothing to do with MS13, and far more than just street gangs. 70% of the games area is country side - desert, mountains, forrest.

As for a mafia gta, well let me tell you about that.

GTA 3 the protagonist is a part time thief who rises up through the Leon family of the Liberty City (New York) mafia, helping them fight against the rival Sindacco and Vercetti families. . He later starts working for the Yakuza and gets into a war with the Colombian Cartel but the entry is through the mob.

In Gta Vice city, set in 1984, the protagonist is a made man in the rival Vercetti family of the Liberty City Mafia is sent to Vice City ( Miami) to lead the families charge on the cocaine industry on the south coast.

In GTA San Andreas, set in 1992, as I have mentioned, the Las Vegas section of the story, involves the Don of the Leone family from the first game - Salvatore Leon, attempting 7 years earlier to move in on the Casino business in Las Vegas, based on the mafia assualt on Las Vegas in the 1970's.

This brilliant 30 minute promo released before the game, showing events leading up to the game's start point, features the mafia storyline heavily.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QRZfvLWmOc

It is worth a watch.

In GTA Liberty city stories the mafia is EVEN more prominent. The protagonist is a mafia member who comes back from jail. He does business for Salvatore Leone (same Don as from 2 previous games, voiced by Frank Vincent aka Phil Leotardo from The Sopranos)
He leads a war against the Sindacco family and is eventually Made, and becomes a key leader in the family.

The Wicilian mafia then tries to move in on the territory causing a war between Sicilians and American born mafias.

In Gta IV (new gta era so totaly different characters) set in liberty city (new york) there is a "Commission" of 5 major mafia families (based on the real life 5 families) whom the protagonist works for or deals with. He then moves to New Alderney (New Jersey) to work for a Sopranos based mafia family.

So the Mafia is by far the most important Organization in the GTA series.

Excited about this. Last one in the series was a huge let down after San Andreas. Oh, boy have I played that game alot. Though the story, graphics and city (New York) in the last one was amazing there were really not enough things to do compared to the previous versions. Actually, there was nothing to do and eventually got very boring after the main missions were done.

Hope to see some countryside in this one. Made the game feel like alot bigger in SA since it divided the cities from each other and it took a while to drive through these landscapes.. Huge game. Brilliant game.

Hmm I give up, what game we talking about?

Anyway San Andreas is one of the best games I have ever played. Loved it. Loved the map too.

GTA 5 i never finished, didnt even get halfway. I dunno, i could never get hooked by it like i did vice city and sa.

look forward to this tho. Rockstar generally make quality games.

speaking of quality games, anyone played batman arkham city. Man is that a good game.

So glad to hear you guys say this. Apparently lots of people thought it was the best. My friends loved it.

All because of graphics.

Which is a shame because its a trend I saw up until I stopped playing games that much about 2 years ago, lots of games just put up good graphics and went crap.

The best example is WWE Smackdown. Smackdown 2 and Smackdown 5 I had in my playstation for 1 and a half years each before I even took them out.

But now all the games have is graphics and arent fun.

Yes yes and yes. The country side was great.

So much space so much to do.

They also had the jetpack which automatically adds another 100 game hours. The planes another 100 hours. Driving school was awesome, as was motorcycle school and boat school. They had flying car cheat which, well, changed the whole game if used.

You could get motrobikes onto the tallest buildings and ramp of them, 600 feet into the raods below. Same on the mountain.

The mountain had a mountainbike downhill race. 5 actually, all very enjoyable.

Best of all, one which I only found after about 3000 hours gameplay was the 100x bunny hop. Instead of hopping a few metres into the air, when used the cycle would leap hunreds of metres into the sky. One could navigate the sky scrapers jumping from 1 to the taller one, or do stunts with various backflips, or attempt a sort of ski jumping in San Ferreiro by using it when going downhill, essentially flying over the city until gravity did its job.

The experience with Rap or rock coming out of cars stolen in the city, country out of those stolen in hillbilly areas, classic rock in the desert. So authentic.

I think, one important part was the setting. Both Vice City and San Andreas were set in the past, 20 and 13 years. It gave us great soundtracks, better stories, a different experience.

Here's a review already by Edge(who are infamous for giving games low scores in their reviews)

http://www.next-gen.biz/reviews/legend-zelda-skyward-sword-review

Though I have to admit on a personal level Zelda is only my second favorite gaming franchise. Metroid being my favorite: Metroid Prime being the best game I ever played by a long shot.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RT5fZRn13Kc

^ Best gaming deal EVER. Metroid prime 2: echoes is the Giro d'Italia 2011 of games though, I'm not exaggerating here: the game is incredibly hard. I probably died about 60-80 times in my first play-through of MP2(damn you to hell boost ball guardian!).

yeah for me the setting (done remember the names.. but gangsta la / the contryside / san francisico / desert / las vegas) was the best part. I have fond memories of the country side.

I am not into video games, but GTA is something else.

Well the trailer (in the case of gta, about as important as the release of the actual game).

Anyone else excited about this, or just me?:p

It is one thing for you to claim there is no god, but for you to say that GTA is the greatest game ever is a statement I cannot suffer. Sir, Gran Turismo is the single greatest series in the history of video games bar none (I think Internet will back me up on that)...well, that and the Medal of Honor series (online multiplayer specifically)

GTA 2 was the last I played, after that it became a bit bad (GTA3) and since defected to other games.

Have you played Ignition? The best racing game I've played. It's one of the best games under 20MB.

Bioshock is a beaut (though I'm **** at it) for a first person shootout/ kill rampage game.

GT5 is the only reason I bought my PS3. Sure like shooting my brothers in the back via the webs on the COD series though. Nothing like sniping one of your brothers and hearing the rest laugh at him while he falls. Good times...

Never played the GTA series.

Didn't they remake Ocarina? Or update it for Wii?

I haven't played a GTA properly since III, as I don't own a current console. Anyone know what they play like on PC? This package hrotha speaks of sounds tempting.

GTA I and II ftw, I remember lots of fun on the London missions.

They remade Ocarina of time on the 3ds. Ocarina of time is also called the best game ever made by a lot of gamers(although these things are personal) :p

Nah, Zelda games have a non linear story line that takes up to 40 hours to complete in a beautiful world and 75 hours if you do all the side quests. What I love about games: big bosses, non linear gameplay(there goes 95% of all the games ever made), amazing design art and a mix of puzzle solving and combat to advance further.

I've only played Quake 3 Arena, it was a pretty good game. One of my favorite fps games, I usually don't really like those. Didn't play Quake II.

Metal Gear Solid I is also a great game by the way.

Never played the GTA series.

GTA has a multiplayer. The recent game did not have a great one, but 2 of the games -LC stories and VC stories, had the best multiplayer ever.

There were for example assasin games where 1 gamer is the target, and the other 5 gamers compete to assasinate him first. The beauty of this is that the target is not told who or where the other gamers are, so as an assasin you can hid in the general population and set a trap when he least expects it.

THere was the "Hunter" game which was like Call of Duty only in a city and with an Apacher helicopter. A Apache would spawn in a random location and Everyone would race to the be the first to pick it up, often eliminating eachother on the way. Once someone was in, their aim was to kill the gamers as many times, using the Apaches powerful RPG and Machine gun, while the other 5 gamers try to hid in the city, particularly in high rise areas, or try to escape by vehicle, and must bring down the Apache. This would often involve working together.

I hope they bring back these mini games for this new game.

Multiplayer is the only reason to get these games IMO. I get bored with the game after defeating it once through. But in multiplayer you have the added element of playing against something other than programming. But that's just based on COD experiences. I dont have much experience playing GTA.

I liked what PedalingSquares said about listening to the reactions of your bros when you take em down... especially if they are in the military. hehe
