Has anyone come close to wearing the leaders jersey in a GT from first day to finish?

Gilbert wont win the first stage , Hushovd will win it ;-)

Both riders have pointed out this stage and they prepare doing training togheter before the tour as far as I have read in norwegian papers. Hushovd have been qouted he will do a lot of training with Gilbert and that they both have pointed out some of the same stages they go for in this tour.

That 1994 Vuelta was incredible. Rominger won six stages, and Laurent Jalabert won a whopping 7.

1993 was the only Tour where Indurain was actually seriously challenged, and that by Rominger, who couldn't quite break Mig in the mountains, but came very close a few times. Sadly, in 1994 Rominger crashed early, and dropped out a few stages later. The most boring of Indurain's Tour wins.

If Contador somehow won the Giro/Tour/Vuelta he would be the first person to ever do so, and that would be a monumental achievement. But I don't know that he's even going to attempt such a thing, but if he were, this would be the year.

In 1995 Jalabert won the overall, points, and climbers jerseys. All three. This is a feat I don't think we're likely to see from anyone for many years.

Contador could have done it easily this Giro. He gave away 2 mountain stages and didn't contest Sestriere. Do the math.

But he didn't. Pantani could have done it in the giro of 1999 (he had all three jersey firmly in his hands/around his shoulders), but... oops.
Maybe someone can win the mountain jersey and fgc in this year's vuelta, but there won't be enough difficult stages to win the points classification too, and it is veeeeeeeerrry difficult to win 2 competitions at the tour, given the distribution of points for mountains and stage placings.

Tour doesn't count, Prudhomme has made it very obvious that the green jersey is just for sprinters. He even litteraly said so in an interview that he made the rules so Cavendish can never lose it again. Sad little man that guy is. Might as well call it the Cavendish jersey from now of on and have Cav's head on it.

But in the Giro/Vuelta someone of Contador's caliber could definitely do it.

Closest any rider has come in the Tour has to be Anquetil. In 1961 he wore the Jerset from the first day to the last, although Andre Darrigade had it for the afternoon of the first day.
