I look pretty big and awkward on a bike, too, and I'm (apparently) the same height as Boonen. Also, I think he rides a slightly altered 58cm, which is ridiculous. Puts a 140 stem on, or something.

But I think the grace he exhibits on the bike is one reason why he's a famous athlete out doing cocaine with 17 year-olds and our big goofy asses are lurking on teh interwebz.

But then again, maybe Schwarzenegger's not really 6'2". Body builders guard/inflate their height and weight more jealously than cyclists...

@krebs: that thing is gorgeous, but what's with the ray-gun shifters? ;)

EDIT: Why oh why did I post such a wide picture? I hate assholes that do that.

hola, you have to keep in mind tomke has been getting pro level fittings (you would hope) for years.........he has a very long torso therefore he always asks for a custom build, its like a 58 lower mated to a 62 top, and yup he runs a very long stem............
arnie is about 6 even, again verified in person, which puts the podium pic right on the money........tomke looks about 3 in taller

if you are at all considering a new ride def go pay for a fit session, its totally worth it if done right, i think a retul fit would be great for everyone, but you probably have to travel to find location using this method,..... pruitts method is also highly recommended , again find a good trained person.....
its crazy but as you mentioned it will change or camoflauge , if you will, how you look on your bike...........hope its kool i threw in my 2 cents.......:)

Yeah I thought about upgrading to electric shifting.

Over the last 25 years I don't think my weight has varied more than a kilo or two. So at this point, I guess it's safe to say that this is the right size for me.

In light of this information I may need to reconsider the 'Big' section of my moniker... But after I leave China. He rethat still applies to me :D

I am 5'10" (177 cm). I weigh 165 lb (75 kg) when I am in bad shape, 155 (70 kg) when I am in good shape. 150 lb (68 kg) in really good shape, which I only seem to get down to when I do a lot of trail running.

I'll start:
6'3"; 176 lbs - 1.90 m; 79.8 kg

Some pros from recent headlines (m; kg):

Boonen: 1.93; 82
Cancellara: 1.86; 80
Greipel: 1.84; 75
EBH: 1.81; 76
Chicchi: 1.78; 73
Machado: 1.78; 64
Contador: 1.76; 62
Nocentini: 1.73; 60

I love the difference between Chicchi and Machado. I slot in in the Boonen/Cancellara range (though I'm really more Ballan-esque). I'm curious to see how the rest of you shape up, especially the frequent posters.

Thanks for looking, you're now free to get back to the AC/LA threads. ;)

I'm very similar to you, Mr Tibbs, 6'3" (1.90), and fluctuate between 70-75kg depending on how much cake I've eaten. I usually hover around 72 during the season. I'd love to be a Boonen though, it's annoyingly difficult for me to put on weight (i.e. muscle) and I practically have to eat my body weight in protein every week to maintain what I've got.

i didnt realise Boonen was that big. i have a similar height and weight to Grieple/Cancellara according to that but not as good. 183 c - 78 KG

me neither - i hate pros like that for wrecking one of my main excuses ("i just don't have the natural build for this"). ditto Jurgen van Summeren

myself, 195 and 95, race weight is occasionally as low as 83 but i don't like going that low - get little sniffles all the time and uncompetitive scrummaging (rugby).

it will be interesting to see how somebody like Taylor Phinney gets on this year and the future. he's my weight but a lot taller, something like 195 - get the feeling he will be unstoppable in TT's and was sprinting well in the TDU. he might find it tough on the climbs though if and when he fills out.

Well if I went and ran 160km I would be wanting to shred the pounds as well.

Running will strip the weight off you like nothing else. Doing twenty to thirty mile training runs in the mountains with a lot of climbing does a better job for me than any amount of cycling. I don't know why.

I'm not a usual poster, but I am 195cm tall and 71kg. Yet even when I get down to that I can't seem to shift the fat on the lower section of my stomach, I don't understand it, has anyone got any ideas? I'm not sure what rider I can be compared to, as I don't know what sort of cyclist I am, there aren't any mountains in East Lothian (but there is some good hills) so I'm not sure about that part.
Any help is appreciated.

Maybe other people are different, but I find the last bit of fat to go is on my lower stomach, and I have to be pretty lean to make it disappear.

I am pretty sure it has something do with the weight bearing of running. Oh the bike the bike carry's your weight, in swimming the water, in rowing the boat etc. Running your legs always carry you.

The weight loss actually comes from grinding all the cartilage out of your joints! Little known fact!

@forzainter: I, too, suffer from the curse of the pear-shaped gentleman. I've come to just accept it, b/c it's apparently not going anywhere. The best treatment is a good long ride with friends--and then a pitcher of beer with same! It may not make the fat go away, but, at that point, who cares?!

In my more deluded moments, I like to think I'm a bit like Gibo Simoni.

I am also 170cm and 62-63kg, but more cycling could drop it a tiny bit. The lightest I have been is 55kg backpacking through Asia, and the most 65kg - the first 3 years after my wife had a baby - ie. no riding at all.

It's funny the little guys can't put weight on, and the big guys can't take it off.

In my deluded moments I think I could be Paolo Bettini - climb a bit, sprint a bit, but I have more attitude (hence the avatar)!

A lot of riders lose weight as they rise in the ranks. Coach Eddy B. noted that Greg LeMond was pudgy as a junior, became lean as a senior.

While Taylor will always be a big guy, I'm confident he'll lose enough pounds to at least become a formidable classics rider. Perhaps in the Cancellara, Boonen, or Balan fashion.

I have a weigth very much comparable with the pros.

192 cm and 68 kg.

I could be a climber, but we have no hills higher than 200 m in Denmark. As Brian Holm once said. "There are no hills in Denmark you can't ride on the large chainring." I have to disagree though. But I am not a pro.

I'm 177cm BroDeal and couldn't have said it better.

Have been to 64kg, great for long road climbs - bad for MTB XC racing though !

I'm 6'1" (1.5) / 186.69cm and 151lbs / 68kg

Read that Andy Schleck was 6'1", but he weighs something like 6kg lighter than me. He really cannot weigh that! Must be fake

Arrgggh, yes he can. My brothers is 19 next week. 5'10", 57-59 kilos. My other brother is the same height, maybe a bit taller and weighs a maximum of 51 kilos and is two years younger. Andy Schleck can certainly weigh 62 kg, he looks like he does when I see my brothers. Weight is not important, muscle and fat composition is more relevant and limb lengths and ratios. I'm 5'7", or 170cm. In 2005 and 2006 I weighed 63 kg, and last year in January I was 65kg. I was thinner, leaner and stronger at 65kg. My aerobic capacity was also much higher.

Weight and height is not important, finding your own bodies balance is what is crucial. For example I do boxing training. My friends also take the same class. One weighs 120kg and the other a bit over 140kg. Only my 140kg friend could apply more force in a punch or elbow than me, because of his momentum with his entire weight. Kicking...no challenge there either. I am in another league against most people I know. Put simply I have more upper body and lower body power than they do in one range of movement. Bench pressing...different story, they can lift more than me....strength wise they come up trumps.

In build who do I resemble? I look more like a cross, look-wise, between Rasmussen and Valverde. Build...sorry to say it but I am a similar build to Evans. Not that any of that bothers me. I couldn't care less. Ten years ago I looked like a shorter clone of Rasmussen.

What do you eat? How many meals in a day? When do you train? What exercises do you do? Cross training and a solid diet can take care of most excess body fat.
