What made me sick was when Vande Velde was dropped and Henao began setting up the pace. What for? Why didn't Urán simply go with Gadret? Urán has been a huge disappointment. He followed wheels for 3 weeks and I'm glad he won't get a particularly good GC result.

You people are unbelievable.

Trying to defend 5th, and maybe take 4th from the struggling Basso, was clearly more important than Henao trying for 4th on the stage.

4th on a stage? That's what was important today? Are you kidding?

Had Henao stayed with the top guys instead of helping Uran people would be *****ing that Sky clearly gave up on Uran for the sake of Cav's chances at the red jersey.

Let those guys ride. For Henao its his first GT, it's way more important to let him feel what it is about and to let him discover his strengths than to fit him in some sort of domestique role both on the flats and in the mountains.

He's part of a team, and sometimes you need to ride for your leader. Uran earned it by being the stronger rider until today.

If it was for a stage win, sure let him go. For 4th??

This.

Promising Giro for Henao. Hope he snatches 10th from Gadret.

If Sky wanted to protect Urán's GC, they should have done something before they let De Gendt, Nieve and Cunego get a 5-minute gap. By the time they made Henao pull, it was too late and pointless. That was one for the Giro contenders, not for Urán.

Of course, what Sky should have done is have Henao join the breakaway, but they haven't done a single offensive manoeuvre the whole Giro.

Personally I'm too not bothered by Henao having to wait for Urán later on, although considering they've had both of them ride in a free role for much of the Giro and Urán didn't wait for Henao when Henao was in the white jersey, it's very slightly odd not to give them freedom till the end.

Or make the 4 guys in GC ahead of him do their jobs, and reap the benefits of it on the Stelvio. They certainly shouldn't have done Rodriguez's work for him.

It's not true that they haven't done a single offensive manoeuvre; Uran attacked on the stage into Assisi. On the big mountains clearly he's been on the limit and giving everything to cling on to the big boys. Every time there has been an attack from them he's gone out the back.

In hindsight I'm sure they'd have let Henao go with Nieve etc, but expecting the favourites to do their job well, and for the Colombians to then have an advantage on the Stelvio isn't a crazy tactic. Uran just didn't have it after they put Henao on the front.

I am very happy for Henao. Once again he showed his consistency. Even when he had a bad day he managed his losses. I hope he breaks the top ten tomorrow.:)

Uran, well, we now his limitations. He struggled on this third week as usual. :(

I think the error was at the false flat before the Stelvio. They should have put Henao in the breakway. He was visibly comfortable in the group. But I guess Uran was the designated leader and he had to stay with him. Although the only thing that Uran was risking was his fifth place. And he lost it anyway.

Don't be so hard on Uran, he still finished with Basso.

Uran is also still 25. Look at the top 3 of the giro all 30/30+
De Gendt is ofcourse exceptional but still.

Exactly. Uran didn't particularly struggle in the third week, he was around the 6th or 7th strongest climber over the big three stages. It's a big improvement on what he's done in GTs in the past.

Uran's 5th (or 6th) place is not even the most important thing they could protect by putting Henao in the break.

He might well get 8th.
Very good for his 1st GT.

He should get 10th from Gadret and maybe 9th from Nieve if he has a good day but taking 8th from Pozzovivo is highly unlikely.

You are right.:)

Maybe I was a little upset that he was overtaken by two riders on the last day because they were more aggressive than him.

Maybe he needs to start being more aggressive in the future. Maybe he wanted to proof himself that he could perform well for three weeks.

lol that reminds me. Wasn't the whole romanticising of Colombian riders based on the idea that they always attack?

That happens when they know they have no real shot at the GC so they go for the KOM instead and in the process end up inside or close to the GC top 10. This is not the case for Uran and Henao and it definitely won't be after this Giro as they will exit it thinking of a podium spot in the next GT they enter.

Pozzovivo is only 9 seconds ahead of Nieve and 1:33 ahead of Henao.
Henao is not a great TTer himself, but he should be able to take a minute and a half off Pozzo and Nieve over 30 km.

Gadret, clearly.
Nieve, mmm, maybe. Snail on the TT bike. Yet again, is Henao that much better?
Pozzovivo? No chance at all. His TT is not bad at all.
