If he is as good a rider as Contador, he should still be able to win the Vuelta.

Let's wait until we know what the exact injury is. If it's indeed a broken leg, as is rumored now, then he'll not be back in time, if ever.
Contador also broke his leg in '14...

Vino came back from nasty carrer ending injuries, Valverde can do the same if it is a leg break!

Always disappointing to see a favourite crash like that. I guess he only has himself to blame, but still, such a disappointing way to end the race.

Seems a bit shallow to say so, but if he comes back super strong for the Vuelta and Lombardia it could even end up being a blessing in disguise.

Should probably have practiced his bike-handling on his TT-bike a bit more. I guess he was too desperate to take time today and risked way too much.
Pretty distasteful after such a crash. I know you are out to get a reaction from me and probably DFA in particular, I expect to 'pay back' for his at times harsh words on Contador, but this is over the line IMO. Really not showing class here, mate. ;)

Anyways, I have spent the last month jinxing him, so I take it all on my shoulders. I genuinely believed he could win this race or at least top-3. Well, he can't now, but he can fortunately win the Vuelta and Movistar will be loaded with a fresh Moreno, Fernandez, Soler and Valverde. So I guess we wait for this bike race to end now...

I'm just stating the facts. If there's something you disagree with, I'm willing to discuss that, but there's no reason to hurl all kinds of accusations.

So why do y'all reckon he was so desperate today? Pushed himself too much wanting to beat Contador and overcome his own insecurity?

If it's just a flesh wound, it really would be quite weak not to win the Vuelta.

Cut the crap!
After Valverde fans saying similar things about Contador last year (it being extremely weak of not winning Vuelta, that he didn't even have a chance to win the TDF without the crash etc.) I think Netserk's reaction is expected.
Valverde fans brought it upon themselves by their statements last year.

Amazing, you can almost feel the joy.

He wanted yellow after stage 3, obviously. Or stage 5. Nothing to do with Contador.

The obvious difference being that Valverde has already won three stage races, a monument and a classic this season. Fortunately for him, his whole doesn't hinge on just the GTs - like it did for Contador last year. He's more than a one trick pony.

You don't have to be pushing your limits to go down on a day like that. Was Gallopin trying to settle some personal vendetta with Sylvain Chavanel when he went down?

The only trick Valverde had in this Tour was crashing

You are using rider's tragedy to make your own irracional war between fans. Pathetic.

I hope it's nothing serious and he will get well soon.

Again, probably a bit over the line. It doesn't look good when one genuinely seems happy when another rider crashes.
