"They both don't have any serious injuries, but the blow was hard and Alejandro was feeling a bit dizzy," said Hoyos. "He has several bruises, especially on his left side, on the hip and the knee and a hard hit on his elbow." It was confirmed that neither rider sustained any broken bones in the crash.

2012 Tour, Crash(es?)
2012 Vuelta, opponents ride away during a tiny crash. Ok, probably would have finished 2nd-3rd anyway but still.
2013 Tour, absolutely ****ed on a standard puncture.
2013 Vuelta, puncture during tt, loses 20 seconds.
He wasn't exactly lucky in GTs before his ban.The Hitch said:Maddone is Valverde unlucky or what since his comeback.

I didn't mind him even after his comeback and actually felt a little bad for him after what happened at the Tour in the crosswinds and his puncture. However he has been horrendous to watch this Vuelta, what he did the other day made me quite angry. Wheelsucking is fair enough if that's your limit (Wiggins did it to his strength and won a GT) however to then pounce on the line and gain bonus seconds over guys who have dug deep at his expense is just wrong and I don't like that. Each to their own I suppose though.

A number of guys have had misfortunes and Valverde has done nothing to slow the race sometimes even appearing to drop the hammer, but that one seems to be going around.
Archibald said:I'll second that.
both of karlboss' reasons above. Completely unrepentent f**k.
And the comes the whinging when he's done the same himself - prize hypocrite
karlboss said:Just quickly, When should you wait and when shouldn't you? A couple of my own thoughts. Wiggins for Cadel with the tacks on the road, good waiting, Hamilton/Ullrich for Armstrong with the plastic bag, good waiting. Contador and Froome falling at the Tour, I'd have waited for Froome not for Contador. If your tactic is to take risks and you fall bad luck, if you are taken out by someone it'd be nice if folks waited. Valverde's puncture, teams going for the stage shouldn't wait and can contribute to the pace, GC teams can sit in, but not work. Do folk agree or disagree? Any situations that are contentios?

He might ride the Giro next year. Nothing in cycling (or life) is certain anymore
I was shocked too! What's next, Andy Schleck riding races too?!Red Rick said:http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/valverde-accepts-defeat-at-lombardia
