Quintana: ...lost 2 kilos, but... that-
Valverde: But that's great! No wonder you were climbing so well!
Quintana: ...that was some ****ing decompensation, y'know?
Visconti?: 2 kilos of power?
Valverde: Look at him pout! *kiss*

Thanks. Well I don't think I'd smile!

Yes, nairo is explaining that he has lost two kilograms (because his illness i think) and valverde says thats better for climbing, and nairo says that also has lost power and valverde laughs and says: "look at him how he complains".

I get the feeling that he's completely mistiming it and that Quintana is not amused though.

(Hey maybe someone can post yet another translation for the sake of it)

I dont know... It also looks like he is making some fun of Quintana.

He is not making fun of Quintana. He is trying to spin a clearly overcooked Nairo in a positive direction and lift his spirit.

That's the impression I get too. I think the desire to create drama where there is none is sometimes an epidemic in this forum.

I agree. It is rather clumsy and a bit disrespectful also. Totally not the time to crack a joke in his face.

The intention was good, i think, but misread in the moment.

I try to relate this to the comraderie between folks that you ride/race/train with regularly. The smack talk, poking and joking, attempts to uplift someone having a bad day. It's not so different except for they get paid for it.

No, its not my way of being. Its just i dont feel he is comforting nairo. I feel its more about joking at him, but not in a bad way, just joking.

They should filmed the reaction from Nairo too. Now it's just put out of a (possible) context.

Bala just tried to cheer Nairo up. Nothing wrong with that.

Ain't many pro riders I would enjoy spending time with, but Valverde is definitely one of them.
Its commonly known that hes a joker. Yes, i think he is an amusing rider. Purito also is a very funny guy.

Nairo looks dead. I doubt there was any reaction to film at all :D

your translation is fairly accurate. spaniards love to say ostia-this and ostia-that. it's funny to hear a non-Spaniard use that word, but that's how stuff gets picked-up.

Valverde is definitely not being mean to Quintana, and Quintana is definitely not taking offense or about to cry (at least not as a result of Valverde's words) - he's just cracked. But there's still just bantering after what must've been a horrific stage. Yeah, Quintana doesn't show the slighest indication that he's feeling disrespected by what AV said. He's just talking about how badly cracked/sick he is.

Who says decompensation, btw? (in English) I mean...it's super-accurate in the sense that NQ is using it (talking about his organ(s) failing to compensate from the overload of being sick and still racing the Vuelta. just lol.

Valv is cool. Quintana is pretty unflappable, it looks. Visconti is a typical Italian. lol

Muy bueno Don Alejandro! He will animate this last 2-3 stages with Quintana for sure. I'm expecting one more stage win

Just wait how his form is uphill. Normally he should be below the best climbers in the race, like he is all Vuelta.

Perhaps he can be a good help for Nairo in some bid for the podium.

Apart from maybe the last stage, I think Valv will be the stronger so climbs like this. But who knows what sorcery the Movistars are up to after such a superb ride. I dont think either is done. They probably know they wont win, but they can potentially end on the podium (I know its very unrealistic, but they can) and get a stage win. That would be a great outcome after which looked like to be a very mediocre Vuelta.

" I always give my very best from the start of a training ride to the end of a race. "

Valverde in a nutshell. Nothing but respect!

One of the most versatile riders since Kelly. Is there anything he can't do?

Can beat Coquard in a sprint.
Sagan in a punchy finale.
Froome on a mountain.
AND Kiryienka in a somewhat flat time trial.

Now we just have to see what he can do on the cobbles. Flanders podium next year?

Honestly, not completely out of bounds. He was rumoured to do Flanders this year and would absolutely love to see him do that this year. A schedule consisting of Strade, T-A, MSR, Flanders (maybe some other cobbled classics just to get in the groove) and ardennes before the Tour. Very light on race days. I would love him to do the Giro as well, but the schedule will probably just be same old, but it would be super fun to see something else!
