Hot racing coming up in Australia

Damn, that was impressive. Clearly already the real deal, which saddens me for the CQ game.
Never the less, some teams (IPT comes to mind in particular) royally f'ed up that last KM
2 from 2 for my CQ team!

That was a massive performance from Del Toro considering how inexperienced he is even at navigating a peloton of top level riders.

Combined the cunning of a veteran fox with the raw power of a charging bull with the panache of early Sagan and bonus points for the homage to his team leader with the Pogi hair tufts.

U23 climbing results often don’t translate to the peak of the peloton so will wait and see on that but he already looks a great puncheur prospect for the hilly classics.

Stephen Williams in 3rd, who's career has been plagued by bad luck, decent scouting from IPT to get him on the cheap too as he already won Norway for them last year.

Just watched the extended, think it was a mistake from the Jayco car not to let Plapp work with Narvaez, Ewans sprint can't be relied on at the moment and they could do with time in hand when the climbing stages start.

Recent telephone call snapped up by the NSA, "Hello Issac, sir Dave here in Manchester. I've got a cheque here with your name on it and you just tell me what amount you want ..."
Bit of a c*ck up by the chasers but a win's a win and for the young man a first. I think he'll be watched a bit closer in the future, but chapeau regardless.
And what position is he going to play? He's way too small to play CB that's for sure. And we already have a 20-year old striker so we would prefer someone with more experience. I guess putting him on the RW is an option. He'd be more useful than Antony at least.

They probably don't trust that they can get sufficiently rid of Narvaez at Willunga, and with the usual time gaps there, they may be right. And he could win at Lofty, which could easily end up in a sprint from a rather big group. So it does make sense if they're aiming for the win and not just good placings.

But in the end the bonus seconds went to a guy they might struggle more to get rid of at Willunga, so maybe it still backfired somewhat.

Just a general question since people are posting about the ongoing TDU in this thread.

Are there still specific race threads being posted where people are commenting on the race as it happens? I'm guessing if that's still a thing then it is mainly for the bigger races?

Or has that sort of discussion moved elsewhere? Is there a discord server for example where people are chatting during races?

I'm surprised more Americans aren't posting on here during the race as the stages finish 11 pm or so east coast time and earlier farther west. Evening live cycling...just what we are supposed to want.

Helpful but doesn’t give any insight to conserving energy and drafting, bidon duties or natural breaks.

That said if he carried on in this vein he won’t be called on to be the bidon gatherer as he will be a protected rider in a lot of races.
Well, it doesn't directly prepare you for those things but he has done all of that before from U-23 level etc. The difference in the WT is that the speed is higher and one thing that makes it easier to do something you already know how to do but at a higher speed and intencity is bike handling. So I think it goes a long way. He's far better prepared for it than someone who spend half the year skiing up until a couple years ago.

My current favorite now, for TDU‘s GC, is del Toro. He obviously is in great shape, and the stages are not super long. He should have the endurance which is needed.

Maybe he stays in the lead until the end, and even increases his time gap on the 2nd placed.

Seems to be a nice guy, too, so why not cheer for him… I was extremely impressed that he won l‘Avenir last year. Being a Mexican, with domestiques who cannot really be compared to his rivals‘ domestiques, he had relatively bad preconditions. Then to win this whole thing, tells really a lot about him. One of the biggest talents, and to be honest, he is now already world-class. I dare to claim that only world-class riders are able to win WT races and stages…

Maybe the demise of GCN+, which hit North American fans hard, has something to do with it. Here in western Canada, I am opting for a VPN and original-language broadcasts.

Not GCN-related for me. I watched a bit of Stage 2 but I’m just not invested in this race as a fan; I tend to think of Omloop/KBK weekend as the start of the racing season.
It's cool to see the racing get started for the year, but this race doesn't interest me much. I've watched the last 30k of the replays with my morning coffee even though I already knew the results.

@ProCyclingRaces..why not add kilometers per hour to your dashboard? It's not embarrassing, probably if you ask someone to link their Wahoo, Garmin, or Strava data to you and you can put it up on the screen. The danger of course is being a loser, and if you ask a rider for their data and they get dropped or God forbid crash out, then the TV audience will see a race speed of someone off the back..
What is updating the dashboard we see on YouTube? 74.9 ..now
