Does anybody know why Robert Power didn't race yesterday?
He was on the startlist

Trying to find out the reason why Power missed - Matt White did mention riders because of injury, family reasons and training camps - My guess is Power fits into the injured category.

It's interesting to read posts from people who were intimately involved in the Australian RR - Watching BP also gave an insight into the tactics on the day.
Power doing the SunTour

A very promising rider and he can climb.

He's got an incredible punch as well. Toying with Moscon and all the Zalfs as an U23 in Italy. Look here! And here! He was 19 there against the one year older Moscon. His style reminds me a bit of Ricco. If only he could get rid of that horrible mullet he's got now...

Power is a serious talent who will hopefully consolidate this year.

My PB for Mt Beauty to Falls Creek was just over 1 hour 15 minutes. From memory the strava record is at just over an hour. The likes of Froome, Chaves and Howson should go mid-low 50's.
You are putting out some decent w/kg then. 4,5 w/kg or thereabouts on that long a climb?

Roughly that. I was good enough to race NRS for a couple of years when I was younger.

Not now though! :D

The falls creek climb is 13,6 km@5,8%. Checked by me.
Hopefully a nice show

What location did you use as the start of the climb? Because anyone who rides it considers the start to be Mt Beauty which makes it longer than that
It's very undulating though, the main uphill section is just over 14kms uninterrupted.

Well you'd smoke me then, mine around 1 hour 30 minutes but in saying that I've never raced and do weigh 79 kgs :)

I know this, just more making the point of where most people consider the climb to start. I'm guessing jens_attack is using the bridge around Bogong as the starting point

Still handy :)

I'm not much faster these days :p

Damien Howson wins atop Falls Creek from Jai Hindley and Kenny Elissonde. Howson and Elissonde went away together half way up the climb with Howson hitting Elissonde with 3 k's to go to take the win, Hindley came through to take second from a tiring Elissonde.
Stage 1
1. Howson 4:33:54
2. Hindley 0:32
3. Elissonde 0:47
4. Storer 1:03
5. Chaves 1:10
6. Froome 1:11

GC
1. Howson
2. Hindley 0:38
3. Elissonde 0:53
4. Storer 1:10
5. Froome 1:12

They will have a hard time beating Howson now with that gap. Great performance again from Hindley and Storer, Lucas Hamilton also had a good day coming in with Froome

Looks like Froome and Chaves were watching each other with teammates out front although if Froome had the legs he should have attacked when Howson dropped Elissonde. Do the riders have race radios in the Sun Tour?

Not sure about race radios but Froome wasn't quiet, he was attacking the peloton earlier in the stage and must of thought he had the legs as Sky were on the front pushing even with Elissonde off the front with Howson.
