Will be interesting to see who rides with Chavez at the TDF - He does like Bewley and Howson by his side.

Matt White did say at the TDU that the a good portion of that line-up will be at the TDF and looking at it the only riders who won't make it will be Ewan and Kluge. Howson showed how valuable he was to Chaves at last years Giro and he's showing signs already this season that he's getting stronger so wherever Chaves goes Howson will be with him.

From all reports, Chaves and Bewley are quite close (Bewley has ridden out of his skin for him a few times now) and Hayman seems to have been an excellent mentor to him, going back to the 2015 Vuelta in particular. He's probably penciled in for one of the last TDF places.

I see a likely team as

Chaves
Howson
Kreuziger
One Yates
Hayman
Gerrans
Impey
Durbridge

Last rider do you go for another wind rider in a Hepburn type or do you go for Juul-jensen who can help on the flat or in medium mountains or even a Carlos Verona - It's a well balanced team with enough climbers.

A nice stage and a great performance by Howson. That was a fun battle between him and Kenny. I thought he was screwed the first time he was brought back.

Is it 100% confirmed that Chaves will focus on the TDF and not Giro? I heard that he preferred the Giro.

He should do the Tour though, given the minimal ITT kms and focus from Nairo on the Giro.

Hope not. Am planning to head up and ride a lap before watching
I'm certainly looking at riding up myself, but will reconsider if it's really wet.

Didn't Howson have a mechanical not long into the climb? Good work by Orica to get him back to Froome and Elissonde. Cam Meyer also put in another good performance, seems to really be enjoying his racing again

Had a flat on his front wheel at the bottom of the climb. Just as Froome went clear.
He took Docker's front wheel and the rest of the team helped the chase down.

Liggett saying Froome slowed down for Howson?

He did indeed say that.

It didn't look like there was any slowing down going on from the highlights by Sky or anyone else. Far from it? When is Froome meant to have slowed? Are the guys in the Froome group who are ahead of Froome on GC supposed to have slowed too? It looked like entertainingly ruthless racing from Sky and some of the smaller local teams.

And in fact Froome says there was no waiting, that trying to take time on the climb had been the plan from the start but the racing was on by the time anyone knew Howson had punctured. Liggett should not be listened to.

Agreed on all points.

Re: Re:

Nice ride by Luke Rowe. Also by Connor Dunne. It was really a great stage, good action in both the break and the main field. There's something very entertaining about early season stage races where in form local Conti riders are pretty successfully limiting their losses to an attacking Froome.

Yes it was race on and just an unfortunate incident for Howson, props to him and Orica for getting back to the Froome group. I didn't expect the bunch to sit up on the final climb, especially Froome who would have gone to Australia again for decent race km's in his legs and to have a dig like last season, not to ride piano up the final climb.
