Or next year when FG goes over 57. He could do it IMO.This won't be broken for many, many, many years.

Well, not every time, but it‘s true that if you want to get the record, you‘ll have to do a long solo which is what some consider epic bike racing.By definition there's more kms of action every time
Philippe Gilbert? Who is PG?Or next year when PG goes over 57. He could do it IMO.
Pippo Ganna I guessPhilippe Gilbert? Who is PG?
Did Gilbert just break the hour record?Philippe Gilbert? Who is PG?
?? A record attempted and held by Merckx, Indurain, Rominger and Boardman is no mickey mouse event. And riding at Ganna's effort for one hour is frankly a torture test which deserves respect by anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of cycling.Mickey mouse event surprised people are so interested in this
This was said after Wiggins beat the record. After that, even an amateur beat his time. This won't be broken for many, many, many years.
Hour record has one problem, it's super hard to compare to anything except other hour attempts, and the tech gains go pretty quickly as well.
I think it's a great record, but with great preperation and ideal air conditions, he probably could do more, which means other elite road TTers might have a shot especially if they go to altitude
All the people you mentioned are known for their legendary achievements in racing , not in Mickley mouse aero and money test on track. Yes Ganna rode his heart out, yes he work very hard and suffer a lot, but why no do that to win some big races.?? It is not a mickey mouse event else those riders would not have attempted the hour record. By using the words "mickey mouse" you are denigrating the hour record and Ganna. Those words are inappropriate and borderline trolling in this thread. All the people you mentioned are known for their legendary achievements in racing , not in Mickley mouse aero and money test on track. I can never tell if you're kidding or if you're just really dense, so seeing how i'm not the brightest bulb myself, i'd appreciate if you could clearly indicate whether you're serious or not.All the people you mentioned are known for their legendary achievements in racing , not in Mickley mouse aero and money test on track. For Jumbo wouldn't the most logic option be Wout? That's if they are lucky enough to have a team that lets them prepare so much and a bike manufacturer that really covets this record. Maybe next year Cervelo will pick a random Jumbot, or maybe even the World ITT champion.

Valid point.
His only focus has been the hour record, both from an equipment and performance standpoint. What still surprises me very much is this former record by Bigham. I mean, how was it possible that he rode these 55,5 or so kilometers? Is he really that good? Obviously so, but why did he never show this in road TTs?… Strange story… Bigham‘s was world record, until Ganna came!…
Who helps to explain this?…

he is able to take a position that minimizes the frontal area as much as possible. Just imagine a contortionist able to fit in a box. Bigham is able to do that on a bike with practice. This cannot be done on road as there is wind(head, tail and cross) , cornering/braking, greater crr of the road compared to velodrome, varying elevation, deceleration and acceleration, road furniture/dirt/cobbles. U need power, CdA , power/weight in some cases, technical ability and recon(to avoid surprises) to succeed on road TTs. Even Ganna was not good at the WC-ITTWhat still surprises me very much is this former record by Bigham. I mean, how was it possible that he rode these 55,5 or so kilometers? Is he really that good? Apparently he only needed to produce 350w for the hour in that effort because of his low cda. Nuts.he is able to take a position that minimizes the frontal area as much as possible. That would make sense. I was genuinely confused. All sort of names crossed my mind. Pog Gacar, Primoz Goglic, Pello Gilbao...?
