Could Dekker have broken the record if he'd done more work on line discipline? I think that might be the biggest lesson from this attempt.

If the distance they reported is correct, Dennis and Dekker would have ridden the same distance if Dekker was on average 18cm more away from the line.

This is the wrong thread...the official thread is "Track Racing"

He did 52.221

Averaged between 53 and 51.

Gear 58 x 14 was too big, I'm afraid

Too bad there were literally zero posts on the track thread during the attempt.

It was very strong ride from Dekker. If one remembers how low his racing k's have been lately, his track experience vs. Dennis et al seasoned trackies, it was strong ride. And how fresh he was off the bike soon after?!

Yeah, his condition was excellent. But it also gives you thought, he could've gone deeper?

Anyway. I hope for a Horner like career with this new start :p

52.2 was a bit higher than I gave him credit for. I thought he would do high 51's and I was allowing about 800m benefit of altitude.

All in all I would say a Voight like performance. Nothing special.

And it's time UCI brought in some minimum production standards for future attempts. The coverage was a disgrace.

Dekker does not deserve a ride imo not in WT for sure. He was terrible since his comeback. Sad as he was a huge talent.

It was the top thread under track.... how did you miss it?

Hey don't blame me, literally no-one felt the need to go to that thread for the entirely of the hour.

Did not think Dekker would break the record but he did better than I expected. Wiggo will probably break it and Dennis will have another crack in the future I'm sure. For years no one seemed concerned with the record and now it's open season it seems.

Who else is planning an attempt?

There is Alex Dowsett when his recovery from a broken collarbone is over (I think he will break the record), then Wiggins in the summer?

Cancellara appears to have abandoned it, in line with his general shift away from TTing.

Others mentioned are Tony Martin and Phinney. Any others?

Not any time soon for Tony. He said in January that his goals for this season are P-N, Prologue of the Tour and getting back his rainbow stripes. So too many goals to get an additional peak for the hour record. But he said he was open for it maybe in 2016.

Well, Dekker did OK however ...

That being said, I hope Wigo will smash the record by such a margin that those like Dekker, Voigt, Brandle etc will not even think about it.

I truly hope for a 55+ km ... and that should do it

I don't think Wiggins can do 55km. Not even at altitude. 54 low yeah.

But for 55km+ he'd need an illegal bike
