Yep, Sagan is amazing in sprinting up hills, good in bunch sprints, and just above average in longer climbs and ITT's. He has been that way since he entered the peloton.

Well, how he got back into LLS's wheel on the climb was sort of surprising.

In any case, Sagan is everywhere this Tour. With a bit of luck he could have had five wins by now. That'd have been a new record surely for a 22 year old.

A supertalent, if the field is playing level that is.

I am honestly amazed at the lack of reaction to Sagan's performances compared to those of Sky. Top sprinter AND climber? Sorry, I would love to be proven wrong but, for now, I am having a very hard time buying it.

A top climber? Not even close.

It might be time to start considering Moser Moreno with Sagan now. thats 2 youngsters that are outstanding in a number of disciplines to come out of LD ranks in the last few years and it seems, at least this early on, the 2 great talents of the next generation in clasics.

Wouldnt explain though why Basso sucked so hard in the Giro. Maybe they have some super drug which only works with acceleration. they do have a number of quite good sprinters afteral and Nibali aint half bad on short hills either:p

Absolutely right! Most riders have one specialty, Sagan has the ability to be really good in multiple specialties. His TT and climbing performances are far from superman. He's simply the best all around cyclist in the tour. Let's just enjoy it.

Not too superhuman, he has shown in the past he can get up the short sharp climbs. Plus he paid for that effort in being unable to respond to Sanchez's attack later. As other guys have said, the kids just a real talent...they are out there you know!

It has struck me how similar the two riders are. One of them (probably Sagan, as the Italian team will want to keep the Italian boy) will leave over the coming years, as they're both going to be going for the monuments. Will be interesting to see if both fare as well.

I wonder if this is just more lucky in terms of recruiting. Moser showed great promise last year at the Giro Bio, but I'm not familiar with how Sagan got recruited. I think Liquigas just looks for riders with great potential. Aru is possibly almost as good as an investment for Astana because of his climbing talent...

As long as he keeps popping wheelies when he wins, i dont care. He's good entertainment, and i don't watch cycling for any other reason.

Well, not exactly. The steep bit was about 15 minutes long, and the "easy" bit must have been about 12 minutes or so.

Well, he doesn't sprint like Greipel either. Sagan is clearly slower.

Yesterday he climbed about as well as Gilbert. He is a bit faster than Gilbert in the sprint, but not as good in the classics (yet). Hardly earthshattering.

Ah, I didn't get the chance to watch the stage properly (curse you, family) so I got the impression the last cilmb was short and steep

ROFL, yes, just a touch faster. Has Gilbert ever beat him in a sprint? Dont think so.

Classics? Gilbert was probably doped last year.

This year?

2012 San Remo...Sagan 4th. Gilbert 87th.
2012 Gent...Sagan 2nd. Gilbert 39th.
2012 Ronde...Sagan 5th. Gilbert, nowhere to be found. 75th.
2012 Amstel...Sagan 2nd. Gilbert, apparently couldnt outsprint Sagan, 6th.
2012 Fleche...Sagan didnt race. Gilbert 3rd. Good job Phillipe!
2012 Leige...Sagan didnt race. Gilbert 16th.

The first three races listed, Greipel even finished ahead of Gilbert.

So yes, the facts clearly show Sagan has no chance to win a classic ever.

You raise an excellent point. Has anyone looked at developing a test for needle marks? Is this included now in the WADA/UCI arsenal? We have a needle-less policy for goodness sake. Should be easy to do, right...?

You can only test between 6 and 10 due to privacy concerns. I think the whole "check for needle marks" thing would be difficult to implement and be a definite invasion of privacy.

A lot of the drugs used are applied on the skin or taken orally, so you're going to miss all that regardless.

If anyone could come up with an oral EPO delivery system, I think it would take off like wildfire.
