Hmm, are they actually trying out a new revolutionary way of assigning race numbers in this race...

Given those numbers, I'm surprised that they didn't rename Storer, Stoner.

It's in the bag ;)

I'm interested to see the new DQS / Evenepoel strategy then, because I have no clue what it's supposed to look like.
But if others do, it's not very clever to announce it beforehand? "Oh, we are going to do something new while everybody expects a long range attack from Evenepoel, now you can think deep and hard about what that strategy could look like". Lol.

I don't think they have a clue either :)

BTW, your new profile pic is a tribute to this race (of the falling leaves)? Very cool.

The new strategy will be to put the hammer down on Roncola. If they don't do it I expect UAE to make a selection there.

I'm a fan of Remco. I like attacks. I find sprints meh. I find both the Remco over-hype and the snide remarks amusing. But do ppl really think that the kid is going to attack from over 70 km out and stay away (in Lombardia)?
Also, that would make the race hard and I don't think that's the best strategy for Alaphillipe.
The best place by profile for him to attack is 80k from the finish with the road going up and down for the next 15k after a long climb and before a long descent. He might be able to open up a gap with everyone on the limit after the climb. But that still leaves 2 long descents and nearly no long sections in the valley to further build on. I think it's unlikely he will try or succeed.

So what else is there? Outlast Pogacar and Roglic on Ganda? Outsprint them? Jump on the murito before the finish? None of those are realistic either.

I can't tell what I like better, outsprinting them or jumping on the murito... well, outsprinting them probably.

I had the exact same reaction. Remco is Remco is Remco. He can't be anyone else or ride any differently lol. And I don't think they would announce a tactic before a race if they had any brain cells left lol. But I am thinking attack attack attack. With almost everyone.

But also they be crazy if not having Almeida at the last climb, least Alaphillipe suddenly is in form.

Hoping for a good result from Almeida this year. He has been close in the last two Italian classics!

The best balance in recent years.
The action might stretch throughout entire course.
Just not sure whether switching Ganda for a couple of shorter hills would improve the route even further or tilt it in favour of puncheurs... violate the overall complexion of profile.

I trust DQS to be a lot smarter than the Belgian national team and not tell everyone what they're actually going to do before they do it. And I trust that Remco will actually be used well, and actually listen to team orders. Remco could attack early or not. Whatever they announce beforehand is mind games, not some idiotic rigid plan like the Belgian national team made.
