This is a proper strong group. If they start working together and not attack each other.

Ghisallo south is absolutely horrible. I know people would also complain about criss-crossing at that part of the route to do Sormano east and then Ghisallo north with the long run-in, but 2006 is one of the all-time greatest editions of the race and Bettini's ride that day is one of the greatest in the sport's recent history, and it was a demonstrably easier route than this year too.

That said, this beefed up first part of the race should mean that while it's likely the shootout begins on Sormano, we can hopefully get rid of a lot of domestiques either before then or early on the climb to leave us with some good tactical racing for the last 50k rather than just a who-has-the-highest-wattage bludgeoning as too many races have been lately.
Unfortunately Vegni is refusing to use the descent of Sormano west because the Evenepoel crash. Despite the descent being deemed perfectly fine for the 2019 Giro d italia, even though Laurens de Plus and Jan Bakelants had just as bad crashes there in 2017.

I am not watching the race as otherwise engaged

Wonder who will be second ...love it to be Ben Healy but Im guessing he will attack too early as per

Skujins,Tiberi , Bardet and Masnada should be up there for the battle for podium

well there you have it ...if it was ever in doubt.
By mentioning these riders I jinked them again

Changed the topic to reflect the last of the legend that is Domenico Pozzovivo. Bruised and battered, but he retires on a high.

Domenico Pozzovivo to retire after Il Lombardia: "To continue would be like asking for trouble"

One more race for Domenico

Also, final race for Dario Cataldo, another Italian who is retiring after the race

Lovely green mountain scenery with some autumn leaves on the ground...

Looks like the peloton has picked up the pace a bit on the climb even though there's a 21-man break up ahead...

Never mind, peloton slowing down again on the descent.

There's been a lot of talk about a high proportion of these guys having ADHD due to the nature of the sport, Jan Christen I do wonder about
