Time to show of what he's made today.Perfect stage for him to make a claim for a podium place.

He climbed with the best, but lost time downhill, but that was pretty much expected.

Good day overall

Surely one of the most aggresive climbers in this Giro. Glad he didn't lose too much time going downhill. Climbed with the best, just a notch below Quintana/Nibali

Zakarin's a great rider to watch. He's like a tragic-hero from literature. Always aggressive and looking to animate things, but always ultimately doomed because he has a glaring weakness.

He really needs the Nibali School of Descending.

If he wasn't riding this Giro he could've watched the descent tutorial on Eurosport...

I'd like to see Zakarin ride the TDF in 2018 -Think he's ready for that level.

He's one who may attack early if he has good legs - Expect a good ride tomorrow.

Imagine he did a better Blockhaus and finished with Pinot and Dumoulin there... Would be great if he could snatch a stagewin and get 4th in GC.

Appearently his DS told him to hold back because of Dumoulin's toilet break when he put in his attack at the beginning the Umbrailpass.

He needs a good ride today and don't let Quintana&Nibali&Pinot gain any time.Even with the current gaps the podium looks very possible with a decent enough TT.

Really strong fighting performance from Ilnur the Great.

Wish he'd had slighlty better form at the start.

Still an outsider contender for the win if he can dig up a good ride tomorrow and one of those monstrously powerful and ugly TTs heh

Hopefully the 20 seconds he lost in the first weekend won't bite him in the ass

That's what I've been thinking these past few stages, as he's made nice gains and gotten within striking distance of the top 3 and even the overall. Those 20 seconds are looking more and more important now. I too, hope that it won't hurt him in the end.

He'll need to do something tomorrow. He'll be marked, but it's nearing the end of everyone's chances and if he is feeling good, there's no doubt he'll have to go. Seeing how unimpressive the top three guys were, he and Pinot have a real chance to do something tomorrow. Heck, Katusha and FDJ may want to think about 'alliances.' The TT is another good opportunity for Zakarin. It may even suit him more than the earlier TT. Despite being shorter, it's at the end, and everyone is exhausted, but he's been fairly steady and has gotten better bit by bit.

These 20 seconds on stage 2 are really hurting him right now :(
Anyways, I hope he at least finishes on the podium, or maybe even a win! Grande Zaka!

Watching the Giro the last couple of days (because it's totally necessary to point out what race I've been watching him in) I'm kinda impressed by his ability to somehow only have the top of his head a few centimeters over Pozzovivo's when riding.
Also... a more mitch-matched pair would be hard to find.

Great effort by Zakarin today. The kind of all-out attack rider that we need racing for GCs.

Shame he couldn't take the stage!

His aggressive riding is worthy of a podium imo. I don't rate his chances of getting onto it tho :(

Good job Zak. After Blockhaus where he was left for toast I thought we'd never seem him again. Glad I was wrong!
