Horrible end for Zakarin dreams in this Giro.It seems he escaped only with a broken left collar bone.Hopefully no more injuries as his crash was looking really bad on TV.

Hard luck for dude, but they seriously should teach him how to ride a bike. It's as important as pushing the watts.

If he "only" suffered a broken collarbone after that it's practically miraculous. He looked bloody dead sprawled out in nasty area full of rocks and we all know he's got 0 padding on him.

And now Danish reporter says that according to Konychev Zakarin hasn't even broken a collarbone.
All things considered, this guy is really lucky!

How... His bike was laying 15 meter up the road, his front wheel was 10 meters behind him. It looked nasty, hope to have him back at the Tour or Vuelta. Grande Sputnik!

Ilnur should go for the Vuelta, they don't like descents there, plus it gives him more recovery time. Have faith in the mighty Kamaz!

Phew I must admit when I saw him lying there I thought he might have left us and I'd have to turn off the show. He'll be back soon enough with just a broken collarbone! Heal soon young lad and get back on the bike.

Still pretty unproven, he had a decent but unspectacular attempt at the Vuelta a Burgos while he was still with RusVelo doing a good TT but losing 2 minutes to Neila, and was 2nd in the Tour de Slovénie that year, but last year he had a busy April-May then over August the races he was doing were ones like the Arctic Tour of Norway so hard to tell. He DNFed the Volta a Portugal in the Senhora da Graça stage back in 2013, but as he was just a fairly anonymous RusVelo youngster back then don't recall why. However, April-May then August-September seem to be his mini-seasons.

Probably after all he was just getting a tan and tomorrow he's gonna win the *** out of Chavez, Nibali and Krush.

I was just reporting what I heard reported.

And maybe got a little too optimistic.
But, yeah... compared to how it looked, a broken collarbone and shoulderblade is damn lucky.

Wasn't anyone behind him to tell what happen?
Him, laying down, inside the curve is a bit strange.
maybe he put the front wheel outside the road ... who knows

Still very good for his first GT going for the GC.

Obviously he's not with the best on 2000m+ mountains but he could have been in the podium fight still, especially if his TT finished as well as his split times indicated.

I'm speculating (based on seeing him ride down mountains earlier) that he made a first mistake, which he tried to correct, and ended up making an even bigger mistake.

I wish him all the best and fast recovery. Watching him lying by the stream was a scary scene.

this seems most likely to me given the situation.

though i'd probably say not a bigger mistake and just he couldn't correct the original one enough and eventually went down

I heard some commentators say that something may have broke or his front wheel came loose but it seems to be human error ? Either way it could have been much worse. Two GC casualties on one stage. A shame for both riders.
