When I saw that Skippy had posted I thought best to say something!

He ought to go ride his bike in stead of being such a bitter hater. Period.

Hats off to you for trying to talk sense to these poor misled people.

Picked up on " the Hog's " comment of 20.41 and agree that there are too many " presumptous "commenters !

INNOCENT TILL PROVEN etc applies everywhere ! Guess Iran is a place that it doesn't but this forum wouldn't exist there !

Last year i did a blog on the comparison with the " Susan K. foundation " and Livestrong stacked up favourably !

Haters will always HATE ! So i won't waste any further time here !

Mac Millan Nurses helped comfort my mother in her final Cancer ridden days and i was little use since i had no guidance from the Nav centre and reading from a Cycling Geniuses experiences would have been little help BUT a mate in Sydney that told me in 2000 during the Olympic Games of his unsuccessful Fight against Cancer later emailed to say Lance's book gave him some encouragement ! Sadly he also lost the battle .

Cousin on my mother's side lost his wife to Cancer and then his own fight in the early 80's when there was little support or guidance available !

Saint or Sinner ! Who cares if the result is Comfort and Guidance to those in need !

NOW the rabble can get back to their bickering , *****ing and back biting !

Happy NEW YEAR to those of a gentle heart !

Skippy, nobody is criticing the people who do a good job helping the diseased and their families in their hour of need. On the contrary. And that is why I dont't want to see these good people being used. And I don't want to see people being manipulated when they are at their most vulnerable, when they are suffering body and mind, afraid to die or to lose someone they love.

When Lance Armstrong says that the appearance fee from tour down under will go to charity, but instead he pockets the money and buys a new house. When he is charging for using his name. It makes me angry. Imagine how much more good the foundation could do if they didn't have to carry him on their back and protect his image at great cost. Imagine if he helped them for free.

I am glad that these things are being exposed.

Some of you have some pretty serious things to say--I just want to know if you believe everything you read because obviously you can't believe what you see.

Here are some LA FACTS okay:

Lance's marriage was a mutual parting of ways...They are very close friends now and joining together in raising their children (period) not that its anyone’s business.

Lance didn't treat Sheryl Crow "anyway" He broke off the engagement BEFORE she was diagnosed with cancer - relationships sometimes end...good thing they never made it to marriage!

Lance has never been found guilty of taking performance enhancing drugs--to those who like to condemn people who are innocent!!! Unless this changes (which it won't) then he is CLEAN. Just like in any court of law--period.

Help me to understand the hate toward him or anyone...most importantly someone you don't know, someone who has contributed so much to his community and the cancer community as a whole.

All of you are pretty pathetic is all I have to say. Lance Armstrong is an amazing athlete and person who does a lot of good...I ask, what community charity have any of you worked for lately.

OK, who is sockpupetting "the hog" today?

Oh, boo hoo. Instead of reading lies from a fraudster like Armstrong he should have read a few Penthouse letters. It would have been more real than anything Armstrong ever wrote. When I had cancer and looked in my trick 'r treat bag, all I got was a rock. It served me better than any false hope, encouragement, or any of the flim flam that Armstrong uses to pad his pockets. If you want bogus hope then pick up the Bible and give your money to a blow dried televangelist. Even if the preacher spends your money on gay massages, chances are that he did not cheat his way through divinity school.

Funny how these guys only show up when the truth is revealed to the prols.

At what point is it OK to care? Is Wonderboy given a pass on all his actions or is there a line? Is there a point where you stop propping up the myth?

I don't think anyone can deny that Livestrong has done some people some good. The same as belief in a God does some people some good. What Livestrong doesn't do is help to find a cure for cancer. They've stopped funding research projects (because, they say, their funds are dwarfed by other research-based funds). But that shouldn't stop them trying.

But, for me, it all comes down to how much of the money (that is donated and brought in by sales of merchandise) subsequently gets sent out in actual help for people, instead of being used for the costs of running the thing.

So, you either hate the guy and never dare correct anything that is wrongly posted or point out anything that does not paint him in the worst light, or....what?

Just pointing out something that seems to have become a pretty common precursor to a defense of Armstrong. If the shoe doesn't fit, it wasn't meant for you.

TheHog was partly correct.

Right through 2011 until recently the LA Foundation did not upload to the website the 2010 financials. Last financials were to 2009.

It was apparent they did not want the detail scrutinised and provided the 2010 financials only to individual requests. They must have recently changed to appear to be more transparent after the blowtorch comments.

The detailed financials of previous years have served to provide flak to Livestrong's operating costs as an industry comparative. Maybe with the knowledge of a possible critique of the unholy LA/Livestrong cohabitation would be coming out in Outside Magazine they relented.

TheHog was fielding shat out his backside. He was telling a story and was full of crap.

any info on the publications and authors ?

Who cares? I'll tell you who. People who don't believe idol worship is healthy, especially for grown adults in their time of need.

Magical thinking should be left to children and their imaginary friends.

In a cult, one has to forgo critical thinking and accept implausibility as fact, which is what you are prescribing. Your premise that one has to grasp a pseudo-talisman in times of illness for the sake of comfort is as unsettling as it is false.

Just because someone is sick doesn't mean they have to be treated like a child, nor should they be told to find comfort in behaving like one. Facing illness or any other type of calamity involves strength of character and the support of loved ones, not some plastic Livestrong bracelet and the insipid story behind it.

This is not how the human species has evolved, and in almost every instance where it's occurred it's had disastrous results, both in the spheres of politics and religion.

Sport seems to be no different, but not all of us want to belong to a cult whose sole purpose is to replace an individual's sense of self and replace it with that of a "brand" that sells mysticism in the form of a plastic yellow bracelet.

Especially given that the foundation of his athletic achievements was built on drugs, deceit and outright fraud, the exact opposite of the story he told in countless books and speaking engagements. There's no comfort in that unless you are amongst the legion of unquestioning Armstrong Branch Davidians.

Get a grip on yourself and think pragmatically. It's not as painful as you think.

I quote Velonews forum member Yo Mike for the last word on the cult of Lance Armstrong-

"20th-Century American social critic and humorist H. L. Mencken, defined a demagogue as "one who will preach doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots."

Nice article. Comparison of the costs of specific programs was interesting. Millions spent on talk feasts and t-shirts, ****** all on anything constructive. 207 families used the Navigation Service, WTF?

My guess is that it would be difficult to prove there was an illegal aspect to the deals and expenditure of LA/LAF. Hope the IRS finds something, otherwise it will be up to the press to continue to explain to the fawning public how badly Lance has bent them over while they kept begging for more.

That's the walk-in only, to be fair. And the (proof-read) article (by whoever was involved) stated LAF finds that a bit low too.
But the pattern that I extracted was: All real work (the burden of the bigger numbers via phone hotline) was outsourced for some good amount of money.

I see that in too many aspects of professional conduct: "Spare me the details and show me the powerpoint!"

LAF seems definitely (even above) "PowerPoint", and not "Spreadsheet" at all.

Nike would have killed off SI - Bloomberg would have been killed by Armstrong friend and Mayor of New York Big Mick.
