The feds making these transcripts public on the eve of the trial, just as jury selection is about to begin, is a bit pathetic.

Similiar to launching negative campaign ads on the eve of an election that is not going your way. Looks a bit desparate. Minor league, rinky dink.

Conte is a scumbag, I think pretty much all here would agree. I just bring up his name because he has been synanamous with organized doping, and he has revealed his doping schemes and US cover-ups. It is also obvious his ploy is to embarass Novizky, the FEDs and the USOC.
As far as Bonds goes, he was in competition with individuals like Conseco, McGuire, Sosa, etc. Why haven't those guys gone to the GJ?
Anyhow I still stand that the unethical sports conduct of Bonds has been punished. I live close to San Francisco, and he is nobody's hero anymore.

As I don't follow American sports, I'm not sure how he's done the above. I'd love a link to see him thumbing his nose at the various Fed parties.

A good book on the whole Bonds affair is 'Game Of Shadows' , it really exposes how endemic peds were in baseball and busts the myth that cycling/athletics are the only sports in which peds are abused...

The government is looking to make an example out of Bonds, as this case will likely have implications for Roger Clemens and Lance Armstrong, who will have their own day in court sooner rather than later. This could be very big in determining both of their futures.

What these men say will have something to do with other PED use trials. Jason,Jeremy and Benito are likely steroid abusers themselves. Depending on how the trial goes their testimony could incriminate Bonds.
Perjury is what they want to nail Bonds on right?
The mistress is a red herring, Bonds' attorneys will shred her testimony and that will be a laff.
If these others MLB players incriminate Bonds it could be bad for Bonds.

Why would he even want to "suggest" it when so many others were charged, when his investigation was of BALCO, and the only reason Bonds is standing trial is because he allegedly lied (no lies, no trial).

I as a Giant fan, was turned off by Bonds, as soon as he started getting the steroid induced injuries. I do not know to many Giants fans who are fanboys of him, as Bonds ruined his health with steroids. + Many of us monogamous individuals kinda soured on Barry with his numerous affairs.
He cuddled up to Willie Mays, one of the epic baseball stars of all time and then chose to be bad, bad,+bad.

Perhaps the worst thing that could happen for Armstrong would be for Bonds to go free.

This would fool Wonderboy into thinking he could do the same....ignoring that the two cases are completely different. He would then be stupid enough to go to trial, after years of legal maneuvering, wasting millions of dollars and ultimately spending a long time in prison.

I listened to npr's report on this case today while I was on the road. I was surprised at the lack of mention about LA's investigation with the amount of time they spent talking about JN's investigation of PED's. Looks like a stacked jury.

Parrella continued by asking if potential jurors are so bothered by the steroid scandal that they could not serve. One potential juror replied that he could be fair, but told the prosecutor: "My opinion about steroids is that it's like cheatin'. To me, that's not right."
Finally, while most of the potential jurors said they did not believe prosecutors had "singled out" Bonds with criminal charges, one man disagreed. "I very much think he was singled out because of his race," he said, noting that other baseball players implicated in steroids use have not faced criminal proceedings.

9 women jurors, 5 men jurors, one african american. Doesn't look fair to me, and jurors are saying Barry was singled out on the steroid issue because of race.

One reason why the LA trial may not happen for a while. There will be lot more anti Lance stuff come out first to help people see what a charade he is.
Like Flicker said about Bonds, liked him till all the stuff was exposed.

But the evidence against Lance is much stronger than that on Bonds I believe.

I have read...and re-read this para several times.

Am confused. In fact, I now express Bulk confusion. My guess is someone (with very limited knowledge of the case) did a cut and paste and made a complete hash of it.

Anyway back on topic...expert (is it?) analysis indicates that if he doesn't testify, jail time may not be on the agenda for Mr B. Also very happily for Mr B...seems Anderson is a very loyal friend!

None the less, intriguing times ahead. No doubt LA and others will be interested onlookers (me an impartial spectator).

This is gold. Judge asks to have one juror dismissed because he is"huge Giants fan" and the guy answered on his survey that he thought this was huge waste of money.

Be that as it may, a perjury charge relies upon proof that Bonds knowingly lied to the grand jury when he stated that, among other things, he did not know that "the cream" and "the clear" were steroids.

While Jeff Novitzky may have evidence that Bonds knew what the stuff was, he doesn't have firsthand knowledge as he wasn't there. He may have come to know this through interviews with other witnesses, but it remains anecdotal and heresay (none of the interviews conducted by Novitsky would have been under any sort of oath).

Ultimately, witnesses will have to be produced who have firsthand knowledge of what Bonds knew and when he knew it. THOSE will be the key witnesses without whom the case could not go forward, not Novitzky.

P.S., if Notvitzky is in it for the money, where is that money coming from and why is he still laboring away as an investigator for the FDA. Bonds testified over six years ago. Jeff must be on a very slow plan. Oh yeah, and for about the 1,000th time, Novitsky is not a lawyer.
