Is there any act more tired in this peloton? that of Jens Voigt?

UCI suck big time, okay?

An hour record must be on a traditional bike. No device to cut air resistance can be tolerated, right.

Read history !!! Documentate about Marcel Berthet's Vélodyne / streamlined bike in 1933.

Moser's performances were illegal!

All future performances will have zero value until the UCI change it back again.

Okay, I'm admittedly quite a bit of a Jens-fan, so I guess my opinions are coloured.
However, from what I've heard from interviews with people inside the sport his behavious isn't an act. He is really that hyperactive.

I've long wondered if there is anyone in pro cycling that is actually worthy of the CNF hate posse's admiration.

It seems pretty much everyone is:

A doper
Annoying
Boring
No panache
Too much panache (see #1)
A wheel sucker
Not strategically smart (not a wheel sucker)
Not a team player (plays his role)
A team player. (no ambition)

Yep, pretty much no one is worthy.

My post was partly in jest but also partly because Nibali does have a huge following on the forum precisely because a lot of fans don't see him as boring, a wheel sucker, lacking panache, etc. The same is true of a lot of cyclists (EG Contador, Quintana, Aru, basically any cyclist who's Dutch and shows any potential as a climber, etc.), so it's not that everybody on the forum hates all professional cyclists (although some maybe do, particularly since they think everyone is doping (and I won't deny that maybe they are)). The fact is, though, that every cyclist will have their detractors -- that's just the nature of sport -- but the fact that you can find someone who dislikes any given cyclist doesn't mean that they're all universally reviled.

Let's keep doping talk out of this section.

I doubt there's any cyclists (or even athletes in general) that doesn't have at least a few people that don't like them. Agree with Theanine's last sentence as well.

there is another thing: in America, for some unfortunante reason, the mainstream seems to love Phil and Paul. They (P&P) talked up LA so much for years and the mainstream bought into that love for him. They do the same thing with Jens and the mainstream seems to follow. He is hugely popular with US fans. I don't know that there is a cause and effect between US popularity and your treatment by Phil & Paul, but there sure seems to be.

I remember reading that Phil said he would retire if LA was ever shown to be cheating. It bugs to $%&* out of me that he did not keep his promise.

Vino is an obvious answer

and the whole day dedicated to cycling and to the hour record _O_

again it's PR of course but jens deserves to open the hour record madness again
of course it would be an epic failure if he can't beat sosenka's time with that bike

Hmm, so it all comes back the P&P.

They are the Jar Jar Binks of the pro cycling world. :D

Not sure if it's already been mentioned by Matt Stephens just said Voigt's hour record attempt will be shown live on Eurosport next week.

I'm a bit behind in all this Voigt/hour record stuff. Has he actually been training in preparation for this or is this just a publicity thing to increase his visibilty going into retirement? I've read about riders that have attempted the hour record and most have said it was one of if not the hardest things they've done on a bike. Jens isn't exactly known as an elite rider in terms of time trials so I'm a bit skeptical about all of this. It seems this all just came to the media's attention.

He used to be pretty solid in his heydays, didn't he? Of course, those days are long gone but it's still fun that someone makes an attempt, if only to push Cancellara, Wiggo and Panzer to do the same!

LOL. Maybe, but Jar Jar was just dumb, where P&P had real financial ties to LA (read conflict of interest).
I just saw the USA Pro Challenge and P&P were commenting the same way thay always do, so I am still smarting from that. I had the recent chance to watch Stage 16 & 17 of the Vuelta- some with Eurosport commentary and some with P&P. I will say this: Paul sure can keep the words comming, where on Eurosport, there were pauses, but I think the Eurosport guys were more genuine and didn't seem like they were reading from a script. P&P were worse during the USA PCC with Jens. I wonder if they all own a gold mine together in Africa somewhere (only 70% joking).

Just pull his string and out it comes. My family bal bla bla, my legs bla bla bla, my trek,

The howdy-Doody of pro cycling

the only thing missing is a lapel pin with a yellow ribbon and stars and stripes.

wait this just in Jens supports the troops more than you

Someone remind jens he doesn't have to carry water bottles for anyone in this hour record attempt.

U have to admire a 53 yr old man attempting the Hour Record.

Its less about the Hour Record and more about advertising Trek bicycles.

Cancellara or Tony Martin are more realistic, imo.

again it's just something symbolic. the revival of the hour record legend

jens is riding a time trial bike for christ sake, if he can't beat sosenka's record on that, he will be laughed at. the real comparison is with the performances of indurain and rominger. or if you want something more human, with obree's.

i don't think there is any question if sosenka's record will be beaten, just by how much

i will open a thread in a few minutes if i have time
