David Walsh is a good guy and I certainly respect his right to an opinion, and his ability to call it as he see's it. He is in a better position than anyone here.

I think that's false. There are current and former racers here, and people who pay 100x more attention to the sport than Walsh. He's just a reporter who occasionally writes about cycling, right? I seem to recall reading that on this site.

In my view, access clouds judgement and compromises objectivity more than it reveals information.

He's in a better position to know the inner workings within Sky.

Has anyone here asked Bobby Julich about his time at Sky?

Sure- here is what Armstrong thinks of Walsh:
"I just hate the guy. He's a little troll. ****ing Walsh. ****ing little troll."
But that's not what you claimed. You said:
David Walsh is a good guy
Your link only establishes that Armstrong thinks he's not a bad guy, but that doesn't prove that you are, in fact, right. And it doesn't even get into why this:
He is in a better position than anyone here.
...would be true.

So I'll ask again: do you have a link to back up that claim?

OK everyone, settle down, enough of the bickering. I am going to close this thread for 24 hours hopefully tensions will cool off...and I promise it will re-open after that period.

For those that like quoting the rules, there are several others that are also applicable. Have a read of them over the 24 hours this thread is closed.

• Hijacking topic without a good reason and/or new information.
• Chasing / harassing / flaming other users, regardless of who instigated it.
• Harassing other users by having a continuous negative or bitter attitude towards them.
• Trolling
• Cruising the boards looking for a fight.

We want an open forum, available to all opinions, with freely ranging topics. Sometimes this means the conversations get contentious. Avoid fights, and respect other posters.

cheers
bison

PS please feel to PM me with complaints about this decision, I will endeavour to respond

You are entitled to your view.

But, he is with Team Sky. He has been allowed access to everyone at any time. So, I cannot think of anyone, unless theyre on Team Sky, who has better access. So therefore - he is in a better position.

Has he made mistakes, sure. Do I agree with some of his conclusions, nope.

But it is disgraceful that a mob is allowed to continue to bash him with baseless accusations, and by twisting his and everyone else's word. And if I "abandon" the thread, as you wish - then they will continue to post their bias and misinformation.

They stop making stuff up, I will stop correcting it.

Well said :)

The day Walsh decided to forget ridiculous climbing times are indicators of doping. He sold out.

The Dawg drives a Jag spots car and lives in Monaco.

Walsh has JV on speed dial and Sky are clean.

There comes a time when clean cycling surpasses doped riding.

In a world gone mad.

Tomorrow I read, it's not about the bike backwards, just so I know he lives first.

@DavidWalshST ...40 ish cyclists that have had to do this?

David Walsh ‏@DavidWalshST 8 Okt
@Mendip5000 I grow tired of those who conceal their identity. I'm sure you would too.

Simone Warner ‏@SimoneWarner 8 Okt
@DavidWalshST @Mendip5000 but he didn't conceal his identity. It's due process laid down by UCI that you steam-rollered over. For a story.

Jarvis ‏@Platform_Zero 8 Okt
@DavidWalshST @Mendip5000 not everyone lives in the public sphere. There can be a very justified reason for remaining anonymous 1/2

Jarvis ‏@Platform_Zero 8 Okt
@DavidWalshST @Mendip5000 2/2 not everyone is out to 'get' you. #paranoia

Steven Down ‏@Mendip5000 8 Okt
@DavidWalshST I would accept that if you revealed the identity of your source. It's hypocrisy otherwise. ps I'd be happy to reveal who I am.

Steven Down ‏@Mendip5000 8 Okt
@DavidWalshST Can we talk now? I'm fully transparent...
anybody any idea what this was about?

Precisely....
And the day he said sky's poor performances in the classics are evidence of a clean team...amazing.
Or the day he said to me that it is currently too difficult to dope on a GT...logistically as much as anything.

Or the article at the end of the tour where he talked about why we should believe in Froome...then spent half talking about DB taking a team photo on the bus with his phone...about the pineapple flavoured water...
The other half had him taking the word of another person on Froome's blood values...(maybe he asked to see those values, in which case he should have said I asked but they were not made available)...he mentioned TUE's...again did he see medical records to back this up? Or just the word of another person...then we had a couple of paragraphs on how Froome had amazing talent but was raw tactically...amazing how his tactics and bilharzia improved in three weeks from Poland to Spain in 2011...
Race Radio has said there are no rumours of Sky or riders questioning like USP...not true...I have spoken to a current rider who did Poland with froome in 2011, saw him sprinting Cobo in 2011 and said this is a joke.
Back to Walsh...how can he be so oblivious to all this...it's not good enough. And again like the day I had to tell him about Wiggins and landis, the day he was going to interview Wiggins, it denotes a lack of knowledge at the very least.
With USP he went in and did his own digging...with Sky he accepted everything..no follow up questions...very little of his own investigating (Wiggins' blood values for example)....is he on the bandwagon? Not technically, but he has become what he loathed...a fan with a typewriter...a bill Strickland type figure.

I once asked him did the way other journos treat you during the lance years bother you...he said I would have had to respect them first...how the wheel turns.

excellent summary.

Damian Ormston @DamianOrmston
@DavidWalshST Didn't you write in SDS that all journos were laughing at Sestriere? Wasn't yesterday EXACTLY the same? If not, why not?

Jamie Davidson ‏@JW_Davidson 15 Jul
@DamianOrmston @DavidWalshST According to @EuroHoody, it was the same yesterday, except groans rather than laughs. Thoughts, David?

David Walsh ‏@DavidWalshST
@JW_Davidson Jamie, I didn't laugh yesterday on Ventoux but felt sad that so many booed Froome as he crossed finish line.

Jamie Davidson ‏@JW_Davidson 15 Jul
@DavidWalshST Booing strikes me as silly, and probably chauvinist in its source, but can you blame people for their radars going off?

I see you endorse a post calling him a sellout.

Just curious did you have the ***** to to call him that exact same word right to his kisser when you were talking to him.

Race Radio has said there are no rumours of Sky or riders questioning like USP...not true...I have spoken to a current rider who did Poland with froome in 2011, saw him sprinting Cobo in 2011 and said this is a joke.

I'm not here to defend RR as he's more than well capable of doing that himself but a rider who thinks Froome is doping is not and nowhere near like the substantial evidence below. A rider's hunch or strong suspicion is not that no matter what you believe.

Race Radio said:
Absolutely agree. While Walsh has covered these contradictions (Yates, Julich, Using Garmin tests for JTL) he has not made it a central theme of his work, as many here would like.

While it is fun to obsess over these contradictions none are the smoking gun we are looking for. By 2000 I knew the following about Armstrong and USPS

The Hospital room
The Cortisone positive, that Julian DeVries said involved a payoff
Chris Charmichel lawsuit for doping riders
The video of team staff dumping drugs and hundreds of syringes.
The commercial attachments with Verbruggen
the 15% increase in output
Bullying riders who spoke out against doping
Working with Ferrari, the most advanced and notorious doping doctor in the sport
Former riders telling me that USPS was "science experiment"

It is fun to pretend that the same level of evidence is available for Sky and Walsh is ignoring it.......but we all know that is not the case

At least RR was smart enough not to include working with Motoman on his list. Does it take balls to ask the question to Walsh's face? I don't get the point you are trying to make. If he brings his traveling road show on that rushed to market money grabbing book he wrote, I'd ask him. Is he beyond reproach?

That RR knew all that about USPS and not Sky doesn't let Sky off the hook.

There are plenty of dots to pin against sky that are suspicious.

That Sky are smarter than USPS aint hard. Look at Quickstep and how they have gone about their business in a quiet successful manner. Lotto had a giant season with Gilbert in 2011 and did it without drawing the doping cloud down on themselves like USPS.

Teams are learning. But cheating has a way of getting out. It is a matter of time.

On the TUEs or BP data, again Walsh is not a hematologist and even if he had one on speed dial has no way of verifying such data. Who can Walsh ask to verify how many TUEs Sky had? The UCI?

That rider you asked - that's not a rumour, it's an opinion. That's all.

You asked a rider their opinion, they gave it and you use it - ironically, you dismiss Walsh for doing the same thing with Vaughters, ie asking someone who may have better knowledge or information, their opinion.
