sir Walsh thinks what he is paid to thinks :D

I think if Walsh stood back and had a good hard look at Sky he would have a lot more questions, but he is not being paid to do that.

I wonder did Greg LeMond's comment about Armstrong being the '...great fraud in the history of the sport', become a carrot that Walsh saw if he could crack that story he would forever be the guy who broke 'the greatest fraud int he history of sport'.

Walsh proclaims himself a cycling fan! Does he not wonder how Sky can win the biggest race in the world and do miserable at every monument! Crazy.

Like what?

So Garmin won a monument, does Walsh think Garmin are doping? Wow!

Sorry Digger that logic Walsh applies is nonsensical. What is prevent teams doping at GTs?

GTs are hardly like airport security where everyday you got to go through scanners before hotels, buses, team cars, etc etc......

Who told him that doping was not possible logistically at the GTs?
Who said that?

Probably Brailsford.

No wonder Walsh didn't uncover that Sky were working with Motoman.

Reason: Because he thinks doping in a GT is harder logistically...and them being so bad in the classics is evidence of them being clean...now if you can pick through those two lines in order for it to make sense, then you're impressive.

maybe he has gone to the JV school of logic. Speeds going down means there is less doping, but when speeds go up again it doesnt mean anything.

Notice the question mark at the end of my question. One does not answer a question with a question does one!

Your "question" was based on something that seems false - unless of course you can answer the question and quit deflecting.

And as for "how they cannot win monuments with all their marginal gains" - that makes zero sense and could be spun to say if Sky are doping then why is it "they cannot win monuments with all their doping"?

Trust me I was left steaming at the end of the conversation - there was no resolve on either end anyway...and keep in mind this was BEFORE the tour...absolutely nonsensical.

It's impressive isn't it...that's one of the reasons I know he's full of it...a PR guy whose main goal is to gain sponsors. And one way of getting sponsors, is to sell the image of a clean team.

good one.
that's indeed what his logic implies.

Well to be fair he was saying if they were doping, they would dominate stage races and classics...his 'logic' was that they were poor in the classics, strong in the stage races, so they must be clean...amazing.

From anonymous Internet handles?

Well the journalists with real names are too busy waving flags.

Leave it to the Snowdowns to uncover this mess.

How cycling rubberbands itself back into the same muck it just came from is beyond me.

I believe Sky are running out of marginal gains to feed the ignorant so Walsh is doing an in depth interview with the mechanic who can change a wheel 1% faster than the competition.

Indeed. US Postal proved that teams with institutional doping do well in stage races and classics. Oh...wait...

Actually George Hincapie was rather successful on the cobbles.

I have read all the articles to be honest...from the get go I was annoyed and disappointed in them...so much so that when I was talking to someone else I raised the issue of these pieces (April I think it was) and he thought they were 'embarrassing.'
The Giro tweets were worse though...I mean Jesus.

By the time July came I had no expectations, and knew what was coming...he had become a backseat cheerleader. A person who seemed genuinely happy to be with the in crowd. Privy to tactical conversations during the race.

I think on a broader scale it's incredibly frustrating to watch the same thing happen again...this time with a different nationality. It's all very well for fans to say when are the UCI going to wake up...but when are the fans ever going to learn from the past? The fans are a stakeholder too.

People can say I am an extreme example with the conclusions I come to...but ffs can people at least question, query, and not just accept the same old crap which we heard a decade ago...in the summer I was told by a sky fan I was a bigot because I think they dope...a decade ago the USP fans were saying the French were jealous of America doing so well...

It really is like going back in time...even Pat saying before last year's tour that we never see four or five riders riding tempo for mountain after mountain. Five weeks later we saw that exact thing.

When you say you conversed with Walsh, was this face to face or via social media?

When he said it was logistically more difficult to dope for GTs, did you challenge that statement and if so, what response did you receive? Perhaps you could give us a summary of how the conversation went down to get a better picture.

He was a terrible tactician. Just like the Sky team.

What else does Hincapie & Sky have in common?

My own opinion but I think Walsh is a bit of a geek. I mean that in a nice way.

He wasn't in the cool gang when USPS were dominating and now he's riding shotgun with Dave and rooming with the Doc in Tiede he's gone all gooey for Team Sky.

Also he's getting on a bit. You know old guy hanging out with the stars.

Good on him. He's cashing in, enjoying the ride, why not?

Maybe someone could invite Dave to the Clinic for a Q&A thread? Think he'd be up for it?

Philipe Maire = Motoman.

Why use a guy 19kms away when there must be a host of decent mechanics in Monaco who Cipollini, Rebellin, Gilbert, Hushvod and a host of others used and use. Never mind all the F1 drivers who cycle for fitness!!!!

Nepotism / devil you know / established trusting relationship.

He won Gent-Wevelgem by a hair, once. I think that's about the best result they ever had.

Whatever the particulars, they were not a good classics team, and certainly they did not "dominate" as the thread was discussing. I hope the point of the joke was not lost.

EDIT: I guess Boonen had some good results, but of course immediately left for the exact reason that they were not in any way a classics team.
