Facts are Del Toro is leading many races and is a great rider.

Sometimes the best riders on a team will ride some races together. It could give the team a big advantage vs other teams and great riders. It is not very strange.

It is worse when the so-called leader for a team is worse than his younger teammates that are rising up. Then one is just standing in their way, rather than mentoring.

Quite the opposite situation here as of now in their dynamic. They seem to get on very well.

Del Toro is a way more complete rider than Purito. Purito was exceptional at some things but very weak in other areas.

Del Toro is a way better time trialist, is capable of pacing himself very well. He might have a weakness in the high mountains, but i am not even sure that that weakness will hold on the mid to long term.

And he's been *** in races over 200km, something where Rodriguez and Valverde both excelled. There's simply no perfect comparisons.

Or I could just roll with Del Toro is the new Ulissi because profile wise it fits even better.

I still think it is a huge exaggaration to call him *** in over 200K races. 5th in Lombardy and 7th in WC obviously isnt as good as he has been in shorter races, but it is far from *** given he was only 21 during those races.

His durability should improve obviously, but he has a very good chance of doing so in the seasons to come. Style wise Pogacar is just the best comparison even if Del Toro does it at a lower level. But del Toro is definitely not the last 500m finisher only type of rider you make him out to be.

Purito and Del Toro are just very different riders. Purito was more or less a one trick pony who, when he was at his peak, could climb and win the hardest hilly/mountanious classics with the best of them. Del Toro is just a lot more versatile than that and definitely reminds me a lot more about Valverde than Purito

I don’t think that was the point—I assumed the discussion was “which rider does he remind you of” not who was/will be the better rider.
