He has done very well on these types of effort before. Maybe he lacks something in the high mountains, i am not sure, but these type of finishes are definitely not a weakness for Del Toro. His expression is deceiving. He didn't do more because he couldn't, just like on San Valentino when he was overtaken by Carapaz and Simon and on Finestre.
It seems that he doesn't suffer when he's suffering, like on San Valentino when he seemed well but he wasn't.
Lipowitz was stronger today; he had a teammate, but Del Toro pull more than him.
If anyone deserves criticism today, it's Lipowitz and Red Bull for performing without sense.
I don't think today is the right day to criticize Del Toro. This guy isn't a climber. I doubt he'll win a Grand Tour; he'll need a year with very weak competition in a Giro like last year or a easy Vuelta.
A decadent Adam Yates will be Pogacar's best domestique in the Tour. This guy has limited climbing ability, like the best punchers. He might have good days in mountain, but bad days will be more frequent in the high mountains.
He just doesnt look in his best shape. His time trial was below his best and this stage as well. It can happen, he is a 22 year old.
For me personally it is good that we have some stars in the peloton who are out of shape from time to time. The riders that are capable of maintaining top form the entire season still feel a bit well weird to me.
