Only 55 riders finished the race.
Loads of OTL and DNF today.

Yeah, I know, I know... I always notice these weird details.

So, FirstCycling has this:

With a whole bunch of guys OTLing after him.

However, over at PCS, things get a little strange...

With a whole bunch of guys also listed as OTL, but in front of him, and he's still listed with a GC result:

54101▲47ISASA XabierEuskaltel - Euskadi451:10:34

So, did something happen that allowed him to be listed in the final results, even though he - supposedly - finished after others who got OTLed.

Well, it's not so much potential at this point but results. Part of winning a race is protecting a lead. Plus, he is his team's marquee stage racer so it's fair to expect him to, you know, win stage races...

And he deserves a teammate who can either be a decoy or a domestique at the end of a stage like today's.
To be fair, he got the best result possible. And he is still only 21. If there wasn't a Pogacar in the pro peleton, his performance would seem even more remarkable. He needs a stronger team to have someone be with him in the critical moments. His improvement from TA is noteworthy and if he needs to shed a couple of kilos to hit top form, he is on target to becoming among the top stage racers in the world IMHO.

Ineos train or Rogla stomp. Now that you have experienced both.

What would you like to see more of in the future?

In a funny ironic sort of way, Roglic stomped the Ineos train on Krabelin. I enjoyed the anxiety on Tao GH's face when Rog accelerated, i.e. "arghh what should we do?!".

In any case it was a great exciting stage. Even though the winner was probably one of the least exciting riders IMO (& Martinez also rides with that same angry Carapaz expression which makes him hard to cheer for).

Most likely Martínez wouldn't have won today, if it wasn't for Remco, I'm very dubious that he would have come back to the front pack if he didn't have Remco to help him.
Even if he did in some miraculous way he would have needed to expend so much effort so he would have been easily dropped on the last climb.

Vingregaard to win the tour with only 10 finishers !!

but seriously maybe he should be Jumbo leader ??
Not sure this was a serious post, but…because Vingegard, in a non-target race for Roglic, was 6th, with Roglic clearly out of form and not gunning for the victory, he should be the leader over the second most dominant GC rider of the past 3 years?
There's little time until Ardennes - just 11 days until Fleche to build a peak from a mediocre form.
And when was Pog weak last spring? Or maybe you are refering to the autumn?
If Roglic is in training mode, he might not be going deep and that is enough to drop significant time with these steep gradients. I do think his goal though is first and foremost the Tour.

Personally, I find the riders who always look like they're smiling the most annoying. Will you at least look like you're suffering?

So maybe we should put a little bit of a brake on the demonisation of Vingegaard that has been going on the last couple of days. I'm quite sure he is not a bad guy even if I'm not a big fan, either.
Him crashing two riders (the way he did it was clearly accidental and not all his fault) is not something i hold against him. I wasn't exactly a fan of his race attitude this week though. I think we should be able to expect a bit more from a TDF runner up.

And the dog-whistle award of the year goes to...

?

I don't understand this post. If you're insinuating there was some sort of hidden meaning in my post, I'll just shrug. We all have our favorite riders & others who do nothing for us. Martinez (like Carapaz) has an uncompromising style which doesn't grab me. That's it really.

I think the options regarding Roglic are A/He's riding with injury B/He's declining or C/His focus is entirely on the summer & all this is just part of an extended training block.

Yes it's perplexing (even insofar as he apparently has a pain behind his knee, yet still finished top 10 in GC for no real reason). But it's not something we'll have a definitive answer on until the summer where there's no way to spin a bad performance.

Now I have time and will start to read all the posts in this thread which were written today.

One thing is clear, already…: We have to speak about Felix Gall!… :) I would never ever have expected these results from yesterday, today and in the GC. I honestly don‘t know what to say, really. Don‘t have an explanation… Congrats :)

Cristián Rodríguez must be the luckiest KOM winner ever. First, Formolo doesn't take the three points at the top of the penultimate climb, probably because he didn't know he could take the jersey by doing that, and second, Rodríguez himself crosses the line as the last guy inside the time limit - just 13 seconds ahead of time. 39 riders were too late.

But then there was that crash as well. Come on, if my aunt had wheels she would be a truck, not my aunt. Give me a break. Remco was with the lead and almost saved to podium. So it was a moot point anyway. Both of them were going to work together.

Chapeau Dany. He was the strongest in the race.

This was a very important race for Remco IMHO. He just needs more experience and more miles. He probably needs a bit more discipline during the winter. But he is becoming better. Great to see him ride like this.

Or maybe he has more to thank a teammate for than many jersey winners do. I asume that Doubey accompanied him for several km with a DS shouting a countdown down the radio.

Seeing Roglic stomping the Ineos train on Krabelin was priceless. One minute Ineos had everything under control with teammates all around Martinez. Next minute everyone was gone!!!!! LOL.

Krabelin is a monster climb. Alaway brings a lot of spectacle. The fact that they always put it like 40 km from the finish also helps a lot in the race.
