Only 55 riders finished the race.
Loads of OTL and DNF today.
55 | Xabier Isasa | Euskaltel-Euskadi | + 22:28 |
OTL | ISASA Xabier | Euskaltel - Euskadi | 22:28 |
54 | 101 | ▲47 | ISASA Xabier | Euskaltel - Euskadi | 4 | 5 | 1:10:34 |
To be fair, he got the best result possible. And he is still only 21. If there wasn't a Pogacar in the pro peleton, his performance would seem even more remarkable. He needs a stronger team to have someone be with him in the critical moments. His improvement from TA is noteworthy and if he needs to shed a couple of kilos to hit top form, he is on target to becoming among the top stage racers in the world IMHO.Well, it's not so much potential at this point but results. Part of winning a race is protecting a lead. Plus, he is his team's marquee stage racer so it's fair to expect him to, you know, win stage races...
And he deserves a teammate who can either be a decoy or a domestique at the end of a stage like today's.
Ineos train or Rogla stomp. Now that you have experienced both.
What would you like to see more of in the future?
Martinez also rides with that same angry Carapaz expression which makes him hard to cheer for).
Not sure this was a serious post, but…because Vingegard, in a non-target race for Roglic, was 6th, with Roglic clearly out of form and not gunning for the victory, he should be the leader over the second most dominant GC rider of the past 3 years?Vingregaard to win the tour with only 10 finishers !!
but seriously maybe he should be Jumbo leader ??
If Roglic is in training mode, he might not be going deep and that is enough to drop significant time with these steep gradients. I do think his goal though is first and foremost the Tour. There's little time until Ardennes - just 11 days until Fleche to build a peak from a mediocre form.
And when was Pog weak last spring? Or maybe you are refering to the autumn?
In any case it was a great exciting stage. Even though the winner was probably one of the least exciting riders IMO (& Martinez also rides with that same angry Carapaz expression which makes him hard to cheer for).
In a funny ironic sort of way, Roglic stomped the Ineos train on Krabelin. I enjoyed the anxiety on Tao GH's face when Rog accelerated, i.e. "arghh what should we do?!".
Second in the tdf doesn’t impress you? Then please remind me again how many top level stage races 4(/3) year older Vlasov and Vingegaard have won.
Everyone knows, if you don't pull in a group just because the race leader is your teammate and gapped, all crashes are malign.I'm quite sure he is not a bad guy even if I'm not a big fan, either.
The suspect-looking clown Alaphilippe? And the dog-whistle award of the year goes to...
Yes an impressive performance by him. After winning the junior WC he almost signed with Quickstep's developmental team, he already did a training camp with them back then.Less than a minute shy of top 10 in GC.
Him crashing two riders (the way he did it was clearly accidental and not all his fault) is not something i hold against him. I wasn't exactly a fan of his race attitude this week though. I think we should be able to expect a bit more from a TDF runner up.So maybe we should put a little bit of a brake on the demonisation of Vingegaard that has been going on the last couple of days. I'm quite sure he is not a bad guy even if I'm not a big fan, either.

But then there was that crash as well. Come on, if my aunt had wheels she would be a truck, not my aunt. Give me a break. Remco was with the lead and almost saved to podium. So it was a moot point anyway. Both of them were going to work together. Most likely Martínez wouldn't have won today, if it wasn't for Remco, I'm very dubious that he would have come back to the front pack if he didn't have Remco to help him.
Even if he did in some miraculous way he would have needed to expend so much effort so he would have been easily dropped on the last climb.
Or maybe he has more to thank a teammate for than many jersey winners do. I asume that Doubey accompanied him for several km with a DS shouting a countdown down the radio.Cristián Rodríguez must be the luckiest KOM winner ever. First, Formolo doesn't take the three points at the top of the penultimate climb, probably because he didn't know he could take the jersey by doing that, and second, Rodríguez himself crosses the line as the last guy inside the time limit - just 13 seconds ahead of time. 39 riders were too late.
