Really good stage only to descend into classical high farce because pro cycling 2025 where seemingly no organisation can get it together to make a course clear to all involved.

the level of amateurism in a professional sport (a WT race) drives me nuts every time. are we aware we are watching something incredibly crazy day-in day-out?
you couldn't explain pro cycling to a person not in the know if you had to. it's something sometimes not even I can grasp

I hadn't really noticed that they take the steep road up to Izua again this year.

Last time they used this as decisive climb (still called "Usartza", and with a finish at Arrate, though) was in 2018 when Mas won.

Also the first of two Astana assaults in 2019 when Luisle crossed the top first, as Izagirre led a 14 man group clear with a small gap to race leader Schachmann.

This! It's bananas on so many levels in so many ways. And this year entails so many bananas I can't even count them 🤣

There is a risk for rain today but mainly for the night. On the other hand there are high chances of rain for Saturday's stage

Workplaces across France will be sending their staff home early today so they can sit at home and watch Alaphilippe win from the breakaway.

So far he has 14 seconds and I can only see it becoming more.

I would think the breakaway would be riding harder (given the strong riders in it) to keep or increase the gap before the final climb. Gap is already going down. Healy might decide he needs to take a flyer on his own if it keeps dropping.

I wonder why the peleton is trying to ride down the break. Closest rider is at 3 minutes.

Was thinking the same, wouldn't be surprised if he attacks the break on the flat already, the way the gap is going down.
