Yes that's clearly payback for "denying" under oath, "I have no specific recollection" and insulting everyone's intelligence...they should have made it clear to him they had the names of these EPO positives. Apparently it was a public hearing, any video?

Someone from the committee should have asked him "ok you trusted the team doctors but surely after the Festina bust you asked them what kind of treatment they were giving you and wanted to be reassured that EPO was not involved"?

He's now saying that he was told at the time of his Senate hearing that "news" was coming out on the 1998 TDF but that he was not concerned. So far the only news we've had AFAIK on that 1998 is that he tested positive...

Why could Jalabert never match his performances of the Vuelta in the Tour?
Even in the Giro he was better in the mountains than in the Tour. Does anyone have an explanation for that? Just a coincident or didn't he dope as reckless in france as he did in Spain/Italy.

The dopers doped harder than Jalabert in the Tour.

He did win the TDF KOM twice....

True, but he was nowehere near being an elite climber when he won those. He won them out of breakaways.
In the Vuelta and even the Giro he was very impressive in high mountain stages, producing very high Vams. In the Tour, not so much, and he also couldn't show the same consistency in teh tour that he showed in the Vuelta or the 1999 Giro.

France 2 announced it minutes ago: Laurent Jalabert resigned of being the sports consultant for the 2013 Tour de France.

So he's still going on about the fact that he found out about this in the press, frankly who cares, how relevant is it to the fact that he "denied" under oath? It's interesting that he wants to "work on his defense"...can't be sport related, perjury of some sorts perhaps?

1999 : no Tour for him but an incredible Giro
2000 : rumours of EPO test on the TdF + fear of police searches 54th of the GC
2001-2002 : he probably didn't switch to transfusions even though Riis was a specialist, maybe he refused working with Fuentes, as a matter of fact, he's not in Fuentes' files

Anyway accordng to Vayer, his power was often above 6W/kg from 1995 to 1999 and never above 5.5 W/kg after 2000.

He targeted the Tour de France GC in 1998 and failed miserably.

He cleverly said that he couldn't be certain he had never doped, but he wasn't aware of it because he accepted whatever the team doctors did.

The B sample is only relevant if there is a sanctioning process by a sports governing body, which isn't the case. Do you ever watch any forensic police shows, there is never a B sample.

Although I kind of agree the timing of a positive 1998 sample retested in 2004 and revealed in 2013 isn't great, but it is Jalabert's own hypocrisy that is coming back to bite him in the a$$. Hypocrisy revealed in 1998 when he led the riders strike against anti-doping efforts and right up to now when he is embarassingly ambiguous about doping despite his positions as French national team selectioner and TV/radio consultant. I like Jalabert, but his lack of honesty is the problem here, not the revelation that he was doping in the 1990s on a notorious doping team which everyone already knows.

He was 4th in 1995 behind Riis, zülle and Big Mig. While winning green. In 1998 he was on ONCE who pulled the entire team out

But by the time ONCE pulled out, Jaja had already failed miserably in the mountains, as was often the case with the whole ONCE and later Liberty team.

He was way back in the Gc before Once pulled out.

He gained lots of minutes minutes in a breakaway in 1995.

Mattter of fact is, in Spain he was flying up the mountains for 3 weeks while in France he was never close to doing that.

Not true. Every vuelta he has at least one massive bonk.
He admitted that the only reason he won in 1995 is because all his bonks came on flat stages
