So Jasper Disaster gets Roubaix runner up again, following his San Remco win. Not bad for a sprinter with such a nickname!

Congrats JP!

He's just a sprinter who can't do well in hard races right? :D

Since Shadow thinks that I could be JP, I'm pretty good huh?! ;)
I don’t think I know, have we ever seen Jmdirt and Philipsen in the same place at the same time. No I thought not.

Some folks think Jasper is underachieving because he is in the same team of MVP. Guy is overachieving massively thanks to MVP!!
That’s probably not what Jasper thinks…I think changing teams would be a disaster, as it were…but we know money talks. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s in a Red Bull helmet in 2025.

He just isn't that good. He was very dominant because MVP was giving him impressive leadouts and sprinters field is very weak nowadays. Greipel would dominate this era with one leg.

I also want to say that Philipsen is very lucky that there is no (non-ancient version of) Petacchi, Cavendish, Greipel or Kittel around, because all four would have schooled him at the Tour. But then again every flavour-of-the-month best sprinter of the moment in the past 6 years has been overrated in terms of sprinting ability for the same reason.
*taps sign*

And yes, had he been, say, 30 now, Greipel would have dominated this era to an extent that we would have threads debating whether him beating Cav's record was possible. (probably not, but he may well have reached 25-30 stages)

Bit of a big assumption to make that Philipsen is in the same sprinting shape as last year.

To me it looks like he focused a lot more on endurance and it's come at the cost of his sprint a bit.
This is also playing a factor, but it's not exactly like 2023 Philipsen runs rings around 2024 Milan or even Merlier either...

Jasper is still the fastest along with Merlier. He let Cav win for the sake of the Tour. But seriously, what is wrong with his leadout man MVDP?

Today MVDP got blocked with Philipsen in his wheel at 500m to go. You could tell he had to stop pulling earlier than he would like and let Philipsen follow other wheels. It happens.

On the other sprint stage he had a mechanical before the final 5km, and Philipsen got caught up behind a crash anyway.

I wouldn't draw any conclusions about the leadout yet.

the team came rolling in too soon I think. They got the front and then looked around for somewhere else to be, which probably ruined their lead out quite badly.

I keep giving this guy all my stars in the PCS game. He better deliver...or I will say mean things about him.

MVP ran out of gas in the headwind. Simple as that
