Vingegaard has justifiable confidence in his ability, but he has never acted arrogantly. Arrogant athletes say that their opponents don't have a chance of beating them. Give me one example of Vingegaard doing this!

Gaining 7.5 minutes in 2 stages is equal to giving no chances to his rivals! This is not Coppi era, when Il Campionissimo could gain 20 minutes when rivals had puncture.

It's a scientific miracle that the man is doing a Tour TT and coming 4th. What Visma is pumping into him is doing its job, but if he suddenly turns up with a full length beard or Dolly Parton size "appendages" then we know something's amiss.

What they don't show you is the "other" JV control van: the bacta tank where they place Vingo after every stage.

That does not striker me as arrogant, to not just roll over and surrender at this point. Certainly no more arrogant and POS'ish than what Pogi has said this year.

Rather than that, it strikes me as bland sports psychology to frame losses like that.

Speaking of arrogance, I remember what Vingegaard said last year after dropping Pogacar on the first mountain stage:

My best estimate of his timeline has him on a stationary bike two weeks after leaving the hospital.

My feeling is that this unreal recovery potential of his body (either during GTs or now this year after serious injuries) is mainly a very fortunate gift of nature. Sure, you can probably fine tune with all kind of stuff, but I dont think there is any way to get an average athlete to this level of recovery potential by some kind of magic potion.

Sure, you can probably fine tune with all kind of stuff, but I dont think there is any way to get an average athlete to this level of recovery potential by some kind of magic potion.

there are lots of pharmaceutical aids that have been developed in healthcare to assist patients recover post surgery, or after major trauma injuries, quicker.

it was and has often been thought to be the next major doping battleground post EPO.

Eurosport posted an interesting chat with Vismas bike mechanic from yesterday, all the Visma TT bikes had yellow decoration on them, except for Jonas' bike, which was all black, basically pure carbon.

this was apparently to save weight for Jonas, even though the mechanic kind of admitted Jonas is the lightest of the riders anyway.

which seems fair enough they do this in other sports like F1. however they do it in F1 because they shift the weight they save to more useful areas and shift centre of gravity to gain performance, because in a world where your car, or your bike must meet a minimum weight limit, just saving a few grams of weight with paint actually isnt that beneficial.

and if they were that bothered about watt saving theyd send him on TT camp so he could learn some proper technique for once

The TT bikes are over the minimum weight, so every gram saved counts.

It strikes me mostly as quasi superstition though. If they thought it made a real difference none of his teammates would have the decoration. He would probably save more weight by shaving his head

which is fine, though I bet its very marginal on bike when a whole paint job is only around 80-100grams total, and flipping eck his head unit weighs 60 grams, why not ditch that too, or the radio, since his recon ride should have told him exactly the route the course and where the effort was required.

and if it is about every gram saved counts, why not for the other riders too ? why just the one rider? and the one rider whose very ragged technique in time trial mode is chucking away whatever minimal marginal gains are made from ditching a paint job.

Indeed!

I still find it very interesting that he is fairing a lot better than Wout, even though according to team reports, his injuries seemed much worse. There could, of course, be many reasons for this, not the least of which could be PR from his team suggesting his injuries were worse than they actually were. Nevertheless, if the basics of his hospital stay are true, the dude has some amazing recovery capacities. Even with all the best doping products, for some of us mere mortals, it would spell the end to our racing career.

Media disasters are fun for us viewers though! I remember the Chicken ... that guy was just wow (and still is sometimes). I don't remember Riis interviews so much as his temper tantrum at his TT bike! That was classic (same for Millar and Wiggo)

Definitely. I think a lot of people feel they can relate to him as a kind family man who is dedicated to his wife and daughter. In Visma's social media they also put content with kids and wives.

Riis and Rasmussen were more like weird recluses. Apart from throwing his TT bike, Riis became famous for his "I've never tested positive" quote when asked directly about doping in a prime time news program - and for cheating on his wife with a handball player.

Well that makes sense. The lighter the rider is, the more benefit he gets from saving weight on the equipment, as it's a higher percentage of total weight, relative to heavier riders.

Yup, Vingo 2.0 is lighter than his bike so obviously it matters greatly.
