Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

Page 60 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Come on it’s taking risks, faster cornering ;) Just don’t worry about 7 watts per kilo?

I really wonder what the media in Denmark is saying. Are any game enough to question their heroes performance?

They are praising him, he is just better than the rest after all..... Most of the ones that do a slow pace praise or halt a bit are old dopers themselves.
Then you have the Chicken, he is angry about not getting this popularity treatment, but instead getting the stick.

You have to remember, that Jonas was already a monster back when he was a teenager and he have special genes......

4 controls: Jumbo: We are happy to participate in this

After the performance of Jonas Vingegaard in the Tour de France's time-trial, speculation and doubts have surged through social media regarding the validity. A fruit of cycling's dark doping past, strong performances often lead to questions. The race has taken action immediately, but the team involved were happy to take part in extra testing.

“I applaud this," Richard Plugge told Wielerflits. "In fact, I also worked hard for this. In this way we are taking another step in the fight against doping. Jonas Vingegaard has had no less than four blood tests in the last 48 hours. We are happy to participate in this.” A spokesperson for UAE Team Emirates shared similar thoughts: “I think this is only good for cycling. We have no problem with this."
This is crap reporting.

First of all, the issue of 'extra' tests is not real. This is normal anti-doping, tests focused where they are expected to have the most impact. Post-Aderlass testing has evolved to include more pre-stage testing.

Second, the number of tests. Some are saying it's four in two days, others four in four days, no one is asking what tests were carried out. There's a world of difference between a finger-price DBS test for Tramadol (poor Quintana, how could he fail that?) and blood or urine to be tested in the lab. Then there's the lab itself. For as long as the Tour has been trumpeting the number of tests, we rarely if ever get told what is being tested for. A lot of tests just get a basic menu meaning a lot can be missed in a world in which it is hard to see what you are not looking for.

Third, four tests in two days, well Pogačar was claiming three in one day two years ago, so, you know, perspective.

It is convenient for all that these numbers, meaningless as they are, come out a day after an ET performance and two days after JV was directly asked about doping. These numbers, they're nothing but a distraction.

The next week or two is when the Jumbo PR department will be expected to earn their corn. They have to sell this performance as credible and somehow justify it by whatever means possible. Expect more drip fed media articles over the next week or two until the circus moves on.

There will always be an element who will simply wave the flag in the name of nationalism, but given the previous history of Danish Tour winners, I wonder will there also be a large dollop of scepticism from the Danish media.

Doesnt have to be "something new" at all.

Blood doping work and has been around for ever and I can’t recall an interesting positive from it from any passport or screening… and the effect is immediate.

mRNA seems like a slam dunk though, I really don’t know how you’d ever test for it other than having arbitrary thresholds (how much of a stress response is “too much”) and it’s dirt cheap. There have been supplements which claim to mimic the lactic acid production in order to get your body ready to pump it out. and You can always blame it on superior genetic response to stress… like training or racing.
it’ll be whacky if Jonas handles or dominates today without any cost for yesterday, utterly mind blowing

Guys, what kinds of w/kg estimates are there for Vingo on

- yesterday's final climb (about 13min)
- Joux plane first 10k?

I trust vetooo / ammattipyoraily the most, but any estimates welcome

Maassen told the press that Vingegaard is the cleanest champion to ever ride.. So well... they praise him.. its about time a "monster" crush everybody and still is clean.. clean best doped is great right........

Most of the articles in the press will focus on how "innocent" Jonas is and how good he is and then talk about his genes, former test, etc.. He was tested an hour before the start yesterday and afterwards.
We might know when stuff is BS.. but the general population (in Denmark) likes him and are sure he is not cheating.

No real W/kg estimates on the TT from ammattipyoraily:

But Laterne Rouge had it on 7.6W/kg. (but lets hope that was a gross overestimation),.

Using an easy formula would give 6.8W/kg. (accuracy of that is big question big question mark, given the climb wasn't regular).

Naichaca usually estimates 0.2-0.3 w/kg higher than ammattipyoraily. I did find it interesting that he didn’t include Vingegaard’s numbers from the actual steepest part of the climb though, especially as Lanterne Rouge’s owner and founder works for Jumbo

They've even got the race director going on about monks now 😳 apparently the performance is partly explained because the riders don't allow themselves any freedom even in December and are like monks today.

The cope is getting bigger all the time :(

erm "kayfabe" from wrestling earlier. It's not exactly a novel analogy, I think many (here notably) spent the late 90 and early aughts witnessing a neverending meltdown met by "it's still real to me, dammit !" from

queen stage + humiliating the guy many claimed to be a "prodigy" (and he is)

why would you expect the most ridiculous TT performance ever to take anything out of a guy like JV. Of course he was saving something for today. Imagine his TT had he gone all out...
