So much for Rackham living in his dream world where Matteo Jorgenson was the captain. Turns out the injured Visma riders looks better than most expected.

Jorgenson is still a GC option for Visma.

Pulling on the flat for Van Aert doesn't mean anything. In fact didn't Vingegaard once pull for Laporte in the Dauphiné last year? I also remember a huge meltdown when Vingegaard didn't pull for WvA in stage 2 of the TdF last year.

By & large I'll say this Tour will be the Tour of serious kneejerk reactions until week 3. If Vingegaard holds Pog's wheel today & on Tuesday, the narrative will quickly turn against Pog's chances. But there's no way of knowing whether Vinge will have a serious loss of form later in the Tour due to his bad prep.

That bad prep FYI isn't made up. It's real. You can't 'undo' a crash like that & pretend a rider will be at 100% throughout the Tour.

People told me Jorgensen was the designated leader and that there was no way Vingegaard would be remotely close to this level. The same people told me that Roglic in fact was the favorite - curious, since these people do seem to have an exe to grind with Jumbo and Vingegaard.

I understand absolutely nothing.

That said, it's still just a 5 minute effort in the heat, this should probably come back faster than the really long hard efforst.
I gotta admit, I do feel a little urge to make a compilation of all posts where you explained why Vingegaard would be nowhere this July and why all the talk of him riding the tour was just a sham.

Are we gonna expect what just happened was reasonable expectations? Hinault was even saying the other day "if Vingegaard is close to winning I don't understand anything about cycling anymore"
I mean this was certainly better than I expected. But you gotta admit that you were overly pessimistic. You were still calling everything Visma said a bluff even when their communication regarding Vingegaard hecame more and more positive.

I stand by what I said based on the information available. I wonder if I misevaluated the quality of training he was doing early on in his recovery before he went to Tignes.

Also, Benoot was literally saying none of them would have bet on Vingegaard finishing on the podium, and Zeeman was super uncertain about Vingegaards form before stage 1. I really don't think Vingegaard was doing some great numbers 2 weeks ago in training.
Looks to me that Vingegaard is just an insane responder to training a bit like Pog. These guys casually demolish riders in their first race of the season without being close to their peaks.

Another way of saying it would ofc just be they are more talented than the rest.

I think they were sandbagging, really. I don't think Vingo would have gone if they didn't think that he had a good chance of winning. The moment he was confirmed on the start line, we should have expected something like this.

Maybe, though, he'll still falter on the Galibier. We will see.
