Indeed he said it himself but PCS took him off the start list cause he wasnt on the provisional from the organization, but that provisional was just really outdated (from somewhere before the Tour).
With all the big name absentees this is set up for Jonas to win his first big one day race. He should be heavy favourite.
Agreed. I think the Tour came a little early for him. But he should be in great form for this and a big opportunity to win a big one day race.
As in, he's building back up for Worlds and Lombardia, rather than extending Tour shape?
It's a one day race, far exceeding the 200 kilometer barrier. He just ain't build for that life.
He is also, already building up for next year. He lost a lot of mass muscle. He had to go very deep in July ( very different from achieving top shape)to do a decent performance without fading, and now he is recovering and paying the price.
Realistically though, this World course is not a climber's race. I know it has a lot of elevation gain, but its an easier race than San Sebastian, Liege and Lombardia IMO. Its not a bad course for Jonas, but it doesn't really suit him and I cannot see how he stands any chance at all to win the race tbh.

He also mention co-captain and says greater chances with both which I agree on.
But point is expecting Vingegaard to win or even podium is kinda just wishful thinking based on any career results his entire career that is all, hardly a surprise he isnt good enough at it when he never has been good enough at it before that is all and funny that someone is actually surprised.
You explicitly claimed that Vingegaard going as a dom "have been stated in the media by Skjelmose". That's a factual claim that you have not provided any source for. I'm looking for a statement of Skjelmose stating that to the media.
No, because I don't think the race is hard enough for Jonas, but neither of these guys are more than top-10 shouts in my opinion anyways. And I haven't heard Skjelmose say that and I also very much doubt he has said that.
He still has shown nothing in tough one-day races, so the Danish team should be built around someone who has.
How about you don't build your national team around anyone unless they're actually a big favourite. Just give everybody free rein and hope you can skirmish your way to a medal

I think this is spot on. What Vingegaard has taught sport scientists this year is you can't take short cuts to get into Tour de France winning shape - or at least not when you are trying to beat Tadej Pogačar. But it is scary to know that if not for Pogačar he might have won his third straight Tour.
He definitely went super deep to get 2nd at the Tour but now he is paying the price - again. First at the Tour like the Bonette / Isola stage when he admitted he wasn't as good and now today. But getting dropped like that today and a DNF is still quite a shock.

He is not thinking in the next season at all. He just spent a horrific time after his crash, first in a hospital bed, then in Spain and Tignes for more than a month. He spent little time in Danmark so now I suppose he is finally enjoying family time and he totally deserves it. I don't think he has been training at all and he definetly has been eating a lot of good food. When I saw his picture before the start of CSS, he is at least 3 kilos heavier.
Makes sense but I am still shocked if he put on 3kg. But after stage 19 in the Tour, Vingegaard broke down and was being consoled by Jorgenson. That was a clear sign of the mental pressure he has been under since his April crash. I suppose in hindsight it is no surprise anyone would want to relax a bit after what must have been three months of hell.
I gained a lot of respect for Vingegaard this season. I think we learn more about riders under adversity than when everything is going right for them.
Vingegaard is really dead at the moment. He needs to rest instead of going to Tour Pologne.
