Itzulia and Tirreno last year.Have we ever had a proper Remco vs Jonas race? It seems like it just never happens. We either have Jonas vs Pog or Roglic vs Remco.
If he stays away from crashes, he will win the tour with some naturality. This guy is a physiological beast, the perfect modern GC rider.
He can lose by crashing uphil.Vingegaard is extremely positive about his shape in danish interviews, claims he's definitely stronger without any problems at all during the season and a program which only focused on a few stage races.
Makes sense. Cannot see how he can't win Dauphine, his the best time trialist and climber in this bunch.
Its really just a question by how much he wins by if no bad luck.He can lose by crashing uphil.
In reality, I mostly just wonder how aggressively he's gonna race the Dauphine, considering it's still a training race so he probably won't wanna go too hard.
To me, Jonas looks a bit too skinny..Could be an issue in a Tour later on, with attacks from far out from Pogačar in third week..We will see.
Yet he was, by far, the best of the GC guys. Especially the more pure climbers like Bernal, Carapaz, Mas and Landa lost buckets of time to the point where he can give them a minute and don't threatened. He looked horrible during an interview today 🤣 and last meters of the ITT, he was pedalling like squares, totally empty and exhausted. Lost more than 30 sec to Bjerg on a climb. Too optimistic start is never OK
Indeed. But none of those ever in their life had a great ITT. The question is how much time he could (if) put into Pogačar, Remco, Roglič, Thomas..Yet he was, by far, the best of the GC guys. Especially the more pure climbers like Bernal, Carapaz, Mas and Landa lost buckets of time to the point where he can give them a minute and don't threatened.
Seemed like pacing was a problem for literally everyone of those guys.

Good point. Every year when folks start making confident Tour projections from performances in the Dauphine, my brain immediately flashes an alert: “Iban Mayo.”He doesn't need to be in his top form here, probably even shouldn't. Still a very solid ride. Let's see what happens in the mountains, he will want to test his engine on some stage and his rivals are very strong climbers.

And also with Tyler Hamilton and Phonak in General (5 guys in the top10 in the opening uphill prologue and Bufalo Gutierrez beating Rasmussen and Leipheimer in the Ventoux MTT).Ah, it's a pity we didn't see a top form Mayo at the Tour in 2004. He was monstrous at the Dauphine. It's said that he peaked too soon (and had bad luck as well) but I've also heard theories that the Big Texan was upset with the Basque's level and made a few calls to important people.

At least 2006 had a few proper mountain stages to compensate for that. That Tour was also such a shitshow. Terrible weather and no mountain before what, stage 11 or 12? Very similar to the atrocity of the 2006 route.
if you were a pure climber, that was a hard one to get through.
A weird Tour were every one of the big favorites really disappointed apart from LA, and the rather young Basso proved to be the strongest contender now instead of Vino, Ulle, Mayo etc as the year before. He was never a threat though.
It’s funny howHave we ever had a proper Remco vs Jonas race? It seems like it just never happens. We either have Jonas vs Pog or Roglic vs Remco.
It seems to me that it happens so much when there's a climb early in a TT riders tend to blow themselves up in the first part.Yet he was, by far, the best of the GC guys. Especially the more pure climbers like Bernal, Carapaz, Mas and Landa lost buckets of time to the point where he can give them a minute and don't threatened.

I mean he followed a rider, then that rider blew up and he rode away from him. At least he‘s better than the riders who sit behind their teammates as long as possible but this wasn‘t really peak entertainment either. Already a better race than the Giro, stillCan we stop now saying that vingegaard winning is not good for the sport, and that he is not entertaining?!
