Vingegaard is having his breakthrough season. Such young, progressing riders are dangerous and unpredictable (kinda like Pogacar himself 2 years back). I wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be the only guy attacking Tadej in the Pyrenees and ends the race in top3 (but a bad day can't be ruled out given his lack of experience).

I think Jumbo-Visma won't be comfortable with the fact all this has arrived this season, i.e. it's too soon.

When a rider is so close to a podium in the Tour, an off day will be very difficult to stomach. In a normal scenario he would have been riding for Roglic without any pressure but the coming week is going to be brutal. So on one hand his performance is fantastic & the Ventoux in particular was a real breakthrough, but it's clear he'll be very disappointed if he misses out on the podium now, i.e. after everything that has happened.

It's a double edged sword basically.

Every rider would be disappointed to miss out on his first TdF podium, no matter the circumstances. If anything, there's less pressure on Vingegaard because it's not like every other rider on that team was compromising his season in order to help him in this race, it was another guy who was supposed to deliver.

What's a bigger concern for Jumbo is that now, since Vingegaard knows he has it in him to fight for TdF podium, it'll be more difficult to manage the ambitions of two great GT specialists in one team in the future.

In such situations, the team would send those riders to different races, usually. It's not like JV are Ineos & can win multiple GT's with different leaders. So Vingegaard would do what Roglic did in 2019 & go to the Giro.

But the Tour de France starts in Denmark next year so I'd bet anything Vingegaard is going to be there & and we know JV like using multiple leaders (instead of just one) so they'll be very happy to use Roglic & Vingegaard versus an opponant as strong as Pogacar. In such cases it really comes down to the dynamics between the two riders (whether they get along) & I've seen nothing to suggest there would be problems.

Although by this point everyone & their dog, cat, grandma & pet hamster knows Roglic dreams of winning the Tour de France & Vingegaard doesn't look like the assassin type who will fight for the number one spot just because he does a podium this year.

The media on the other hand are another matter, as are the fans. There will be loads of pressure in Denmark next summer from fans screaming "Vingegaard should be number one!". It already happened on Twitter last week after Roglic crashed & before anyone knew how serious it was.

Since a couple of months Bruyneel got a column on Dutch cycling website Wielerflits. It's unbelievably bad written, opions wrapped as facts. It's a real shame Wielerflits is giving this person a platform.

on topic: I think he got the best TT between the riders on positions 2-8, maybe Uran is on par.

Jumbo's gamble yesterday paid off. It was encouraging to see Vingeaard only really caring about the podium yesterday. I would have liked to see him really push trough though, cause there might have been a slim chance of taking time out of Urán. If he has a bad day, it would have been nice to have increased his advantage on O'Connor, Mas and Kelderman as well.

I sometimes listen to his podcasts, I think he has good insight and seems hes the kinda dude that watches every stage from km 0. I like to listen to him a lot more than pretty much every cycling pundit I know, lots of them has a lot of weird/flat out wrong takes, but Bruynell comes across as a very knowledgeable guy (both former and current peloton).

Yes, I agree -- he is very knowledgeable and experienced. It's just depressing to me that disgraced figures continue to derive a living from our beloved, but battered, sport.

With stage 17 next up, Jonas is in a great position, especially considering that he gave up a minute to help Primoz after that disastrous stage 3 crash.

As soon as Roglic crashed and they made Jonas the new leader I would’ve put up a lot of money for him to podium. I will be shocked if he doesn’t end up 2nd overall with at least a minute to spare.

Gonna say; he's been quite at being Pogacar's shadow in the absence of Roglic. Guess he learned a thing or two about being Pogacar's shadow during Basque.

The problem for him was that he wanted the stage win. And with the ITT to come, he has a de facto buffer on Carapaz in the GC.

No. He rode to put time on Uran & accomplished exactly that. It was a good day & I for one applauded a little when I saw him working with Pogacar.

Too often some riders go total braindead & become obsessed with the stage win & forget the time is their only concern when they're riding for a podium.

Vingegaard cannot beat Pogacar to yellow, but he can sure as hell get a podium now thanks to the fact Uran lost a minute today. Before thinking of Carapaz & second in the Tour, getting the podium by distancing Uran was the first priority.

In Basque Country Vingegaard played at follow the Pog, today he worked with the Pog.

Those two have developed quite a funny little rapport this season at the business end of the biggest races (I remember Vingegaard also winning a summit finish in the UAE Tour in front of Pogacar as well early this year).
