He already said he is doing his best performance of his life. How accurate is this? Numbers say that but after his crash, I can't understand how he is supposed to hit his ceilling im this Tour. I think he is very close but 1 or 2% off. Other thing very important is how better he and Pogacar are becoming year after year. Pogacar increased his level significantly this year, I don't how he can do it but he did it. Maybe he would have another gear if it wasn't for his crash 9 weeks before the Tour?

I'm not sure Jonas can be better than he was in 2022-23. How does he improve his climbing w/kg? Lose weight? He's already about as thin as he could be. Does he try to gain 2 kg and become more powerful? He's 27 so in theory he's already fully matured physically.

The question for me is his current form relative to his top end from 2022-23. Pog may or may not be better, but having a great team has helped him save energy this year, and the converse is true for Vingegaard. His team hasn't really helped him save energy, and they haven't put UAE under serious pressure either.

He's saying what he's supposed to say in the middle of the race to media... He can't say he's not 100% or that he gives up the fight. I don't know at what level he actually is but I'm sure that he would be better if it wasn't for the crash. And I don't expect any miracles during the 3rd week.
Still... I'm very impressed with the level he was able to reach after such hard crash.
And props to Pog and his double - yeah he got lucky (zero competition at Giro and battered opponents at Tour) but he was ready a prepared to capitalize on it.

I would never bet against him but I never see him so bad. His suboptimal preparation is starting to catch him just like Pogacar last year. His ceilling was very good but the foundation seems to be lacking. Of course this is just my perception but like I said, I would never bet against him, he is warrior!

His team is the only reason he's still somewhat in the race. This Vingegaard just isn't at his very best, no matter what he or his team says. You can just see it by looking at the way he rides. It's no shame, and it's perhaps not surprising after the preparation he had, but a good Vingegaard doesn't get dropped on a stage like today. Certainly not by Evenepoel. I mean, no disrespect to Remco of course, but I think it's quite obvious that Vingegaard is getting worse and worse.

I'm not sure it's the preparation as much as it's a lack of faith at this point. If you're fighting for first, you're prepared to suffer a bit more. Again today he also made the mistake of sitting in front of Pogačar before the attack. Either he should stay behind him, so he can follow the attack immediately, or he should only worry about Remco.

He just doesn't have it. This is not a lack of faith. And it's not surprising really, not many people expected him to be competitive in this Tour... but since he initially was, maybe we've considered things to be back to "normal". Which they obviously aren't, as far as Vingegaard is concerned.

He is just a normal mutant now.

I think both. Last year, Pogacar received an enormous blow in the TT. We all know what happened the day after. But after seeing this stage, Pogacar will smoke them all in Isola and close the GC

I'm not saying he has it, but I still think the situation has had a negative effect on his moral.

I think he was a bit lucky today that Remco was playing GameBoy or answering fan mail or something like that when Pogi attacked.

A quicker reaction from him, and then the two of them could have taken turns and really put time into him (of course he would still have had his three Belgian-ish teammates to limit the damage but still).

Even had Pog gapped Evenepoel by a somewhat lesser margin, Evenepoel would have caught up with Pogacar at the end of the descend before Laporte got Vingegaard back, and they would have been gone and he loses his 2nd place then and there.

Yes, it was very annoying from a Remco perspective. I really think he could have kept up with him or been very close. Still a nice ride in the end.

Pogacar kept looking back like "get up here dammit, what are you doing, this only works if you get up here"

No way Jonas loses 2nd today. Maybe 30-40 seconds at best when still having the riders out front that he did.

Really hoped Remco would have followed Pog today, it was very close. Cime de la Bonette is where its at!

Maybe Jonas won't attack again and go all in at the ITT.
Pog only attacks the last couple of km, if he feels okay.
Remco will probably try for second.

Morale, pressure, Pogacar in shape of his life etc...but none will ever convince me he's in perfect shape..simply impossible after the incident. The absence of training + hospitalisation are effecting him.

Was Evenepoel gaining ground on Pogacar before Laporte took over? Or did he still do most of the work? I couldn’t tell from the stream.

He will appear on the Alps as the eagle who overpass one mountain and another to make the powerfull snowleopard surrender at his shadow and demand for mercy. Time of the eagle is getting close! The snowleopard will start to get tired.

Watching it again, Remco seemed to be doing the work and if Vingegaard didn’t have riders up the road they prob could’ve taken a minute on him working together.
Yes, but it is part of cyclimg to have a good team for stages like today of you want to win le Tour. anyway I think less than a minute.

But right now he's the one who's starting to look like a tired snowleopard.
