Heemskerk revealed to Velo the 28-year-old only returned to full training last week after he finally shook off the hangover of his brain injury.

All told, the Tour de France star was away from all-things-intensity for five full weeks.

“It was a big setback,” Heemskerk said. “The leaders of a team want to win races, so it was a blow mentally and physically when you do months of training over winter.

“And of course, we’d spent a lot of winter working on Jonas’ muscle mass and explosivity too, he lacked that after last year,” Heemkerk said, referring back to his rider’s brutal crash in the Basque Country.

“But we’re now with an opportunity to start back earlier than we used to. Many riders will rest now, but Jonas is back training.”
Big bulls### IMHO. 9 nine days without training after his crash and then he took a full month to only train at his best?

What a boring rider! Should be racing in the Armstrong era.
As someone who wants to enjoy some racing this July, I hope Jonas does whatever he needs to do to be able to compete with Pogacar, even if that means no other racing. Let Pogacar compete with MVdP, Remco (whoops), etc the rest of the year. Vingegaard just needs to time it right and show up to battle in July.

Jonas is chilling, if the tour doesnt pan out, he adds the Vuelta to his palmares, unless Kuss decides to be naughty.
Isn't Pogacar riding it probably? Not saying that means he will lose, I can see him win both against Pogacar.

Doubt it. After tour his 2 other goals is World Championship and Lombardia to close out the season. Vingegaard will have free reign over the Vuelta.

What does fair and square mean? If he crashes, at what point does the crash count? What if Pog is leading at the moment of the crash? Is Pog allowed to keep riding if Vinge drops his chain? Does sickness count?

More about the telecasts than any posts here, but if I never hear another "should he/she have waited" discussion in this sport again, it'll be too soon. I mean sure, if someone has a mechanical or nature break, not the time to attack. But if you crash, especially if it's your own fault, seeya. Same with dropping chains while attacking, etc, etc.

It's a race. Luck is a factor.

Fair is no one crashes, no one gets sick. MSR was fair. PR was fair. RVV wasn’t fair.

Being able to stay healthy and/or on your bike is the first and most important factor.
Nothing in common with fair and not fair.

Yes, TdF 2023 was fair. So was LBL 2023.

Suddenly I wonder if Scandinavian riders spends more time with their kids on average. If it's not just Jonas. It's my assumption that Scandinavian men are at least slightly more involved with their kids than men on average. So maybe it goes for riders too.

Vingegaard will win the Tour and the Vuelta.

He will win the Tour unless he crashes or some bad luck.

If he gets beaten fair and square by pogacar, i delete my account on this forum after the Tour!

Nah, that is crazy talk, not accepted.

P.S. And besides we all know who is going to win the Tour in 2025.

Pog crashed hard two weeks before MSR. If we follow your logic about RVV, MSR was also not fair.
He had no issues from that crash, he said this himself, but sure you could say MSR was also not fair.

My point is that if both riders are at their best and they don’t crash or get sick we get a fair fight. Which we didn’t get at TDF23 and TDF24. But I used more recent examples like RVV25 which triggered some people.

The TdF 2020 wasn't a fair fight then because Rog crashed two weeks earlier in the Dauphiné. He was still bandaged up when the race started and didn't have time to train on his ITT bike before that fateful stage 20.

These are all valid excuses (including other recent examples pertaining to other riders) but at the end of the day that's part of pro-sport. When Ronaldo had his seizure/whatever health issue before the 1998 World Cup final against France no one (or at least hardly anyone) would say 'hey, the result has an asterisk because of that.
