"The strategy will be more Vingegaard-friendly” - Absence of Grischa Niermann a massive positive for Visma's Vuelta hopes says Brian Holm
Jonas Vingegaard is widely expected to return to the Vuelta a Espana for the third time in his career later this year. After coming closer than anyone to Tadej Pogacar at the 2025 Tour de France, expe...cyclinguptodate.com
That's what I was wondering. What does that mean?Do you by any chance know what Danish-aligned approach means?

I mean he will probably clobber whoever shows up at the Vuelta regardless of whether this has been true. The Vuelta will confirm that.
It's clobber timeI mean he will probably clobber whoever shows up at the Vuelta regardless of whether this has been true.
Yes it sure is clobber time. Too scared to risk second place after saying ... Will risk it all to win tour .. de France ... But we all know that that statement and .. I showed the best numbers that I ever have .. while still losing with over 4 minutes. Yes. That is a result to be proud of. But I hope he fails at Vuelta .. he got a pass since Pog is not going to be there. I had hoped uae would have kept visma from winning anything. It's clobber time
It simply means that the tactic will be more aligned to Vingegaard.
It is correct. Brian Holm is a terrible expert and analyzer of bike races. Pretty bad at commentating it too. I have heard that time and time again recently. He went as far as saying Oscar Onley had better support than Jonas Vingegaard - I know, very unserious stuff that you could only laugh at. Its stage 15 over again, some Danes really did not like how Visma rode that particular day, and Holm and Riis are very vocal about it.Jesus, what a load of cr.p. Assuming that the translation is correct of course, which is always the question with that website.
big question is, whether Vingegaard seen any means for himself to close the gap to Pogacar. Or wait for any signs Pogacar is declining / falling back to his pre 2024 level.
if not, he might as well target Giro and Vuelta next year.
Being denied overall victory by your own team when the win is already within reach.
Unless Pogi is injured I think next year Vingegaard will do the Giro and TdF
Its actually a bit funny since a lot of people also here in the forum argued that this buys the "goodwill" from Kuss to eternity. But I guess no one did the calculation with Kuss just don't care to show up in any useful form since his Vuelta win.
The Danes have been saying this for years now: not enough support for Vingegaard, his team would rather have Van Aert win, etc. Conversely, the Belgians have been saying this about Van Aert. The Slovenians about Roglic, when he still rode for them. The Americans about Kuss in the Vuelta. It's so utterly predictable, and so dumb. Don't these people hear themselves? It is correct. Now Jonas will win the Vuelta because Pogacar is not there and the conclusion from the likes of Holm would be that he was right all along.

The crazy thing is that by all accounts it seems like even Vingegaard's wife has started to believe the nonsense. And then some random Danish guy in the car (who I think is not even the one determining the tactics) will apparently make all the difference for Vingegaard. Sure.
Kuss burned some transistors or something at the end of his 3 GT season 2 years ago. I don't think that it's that he doesn't care but more like he doesn't know why he can't make the same form again. Maybe he's getting closer?Kuss was simply good in the Tour.
The nonsense is that this is due to the DS in the car somehow having a preference. Like if there's a Danish DS suddenly he's going to be all about Vingegaard, whereas Grischa Niermann doesn't really care about Jonas. Because that's what mr. Holm is implying. But as you say, it's just their team ethos that you all work for one another and sooner or later everyone gets their chance. It also happened to make the race overall a lot harder if a guy like Van Aert got in the break, which was good for Vingegaard. It seems the Danish experts have never quite understood that. When Rogla still rode for JV it was rather apparent that riders like van Aert had the freedom to go after personal goals at a race such as the Tour. Even it this latest instalment AFAIK they were open about it, that Visma is a multi goal team at a race such as the Tour and they don't hide that. So in the end this is not nonsense or dumb it's just their ethos. With Rogla i feel that in general we tolerated it and understood that van Aert needs to race like this in order to perform good overall and the general sentiment i sensed is we thought highly of him. Rogla in the end is a type of leader with a soft hand and can shine if other stars in the team shine too. Kuss was also a bit of a superstar back then. I don't know what the current sentiment in the team is but i wouldn't be surprised if this is becoming a problem for Jonas. At the Tour hence i won't be surprised if more emphasis will be put on Jonas and others will need to take a step back. We'll see.
Out of interest, if Jonas would to change teams, where would he go?
@theyoungest
I somehow doubt Wout will have this same freedom at the Tour 2026. Trine is Jonases manager and went public and indeed "Danish alignment" was another public pressure. Niermann even had to publicly apologise for team tactics at some point. And they finish second with no real chance of beating Pogi. All in all i feel that it will be all about Jonas at the Tour 2026, for Visma. If that will be better or worse for them, we'll see. Visma is more of a spreadsheet team now than JV was and in spreadsheets i guess Jonas stands out and that is all there is to it.
And then if it goes to form Visma get nothing out of the TDF, except for a probable podium. Yeah, lets follow Trine's advice.
