I feel that it is a good Giro route for a Giro/Tour double attempt. The depth of both supporting teams isn't all that bad but it does seem that resources are now rather sparse. The biggest downside could be potential injuries but then again Jonas likely does want to win Giro in his career and i guess it's time to start trying.

I think the triple GT feat is a bit overrated, but nonetheless it definitely holds some value.

Though here we'd have to assume that if Vingo won another TdF that would be against Pogi, not against Oscar Pereiro, and therefore it would hold a lot more weight.

Trying to win the Giro if you already won Tour and Vuelta is IMHO worth the risk. The risk of Tour 2026 attempt to possibly not go through optimally. The pressure to win the Giro is big, though.

Not much damage and likely entirely his own fault.
Though Visma seems to want to pin in on cycling fans putting Jonas under pressure...
Apparantly he was not too happy with cycling fans following his wheel and tried to shake them.
Now I remember another cyclist getting flack for not enjoying that...

I mean, I understand, it's annoying as hell. If some guy is glued at my wheel during a random bike ride I'm also annoyed. Him begin a professional rider it must have all the time.
Next time maybe wait for a climb to drop the amateur instead of a descend.
Realistically this are global superstars now and as such privacy is basically out the window. Teams and riders will hence need to adapt to this new reality.

I feel that now, after teams are starting introduction of airbag technology in pro peloton, that the joke is basically over. In crashes of course an airbag would always help. As Jonas hurt his face i feel that another piece of technology likely helped, a helmet.
As for this specific case i feel you misunderstood me. Measures in terms of training in a team, with a team car or when training solo to at least have some escort, for example a staff member on a electric scoter. That realistically is now becoming a need, something teams will need to start providing to assist their riders when confronted with needy fans on a long "solo" training sessions. Privacy is unfortunately not a luxury they still have.

Well, if that fan tried to do something reckless overtaking Vingegaard with a dangerous move potentially risking a crash, it's normal that Vingegaard took more risks in order to drop him, thus leading to the crash.
Hopefully there isn't anything serious.

It was shared publicly on what happened and all persons involved were named and shared their views. Team made a statement and journalists shared their opinions. Hard to ask for more information.
If Jonas wants to drop someone he could do what Pogi did on an uphill. Trying to outrace anyone on a road open to traffic is how riders die. I've been to 2 memorials for local riders that passed doing the same thing. Both were riding above their skill level and cheated the center line into a car. Both had the same mentality which put them at risk, too.
I know I wouldn't want anyone in my wheel when training as a pro. It's an (undesired) distraction from training and more importantly, from concentrating on the road and traffic in general.
If I follow someone, I ask. If I get followed, I usually don't care but that's just me. Following wheels of people you don't know, without asking, is just bad practice. I can only roll my eyes at all those people, especially those posting on social media, wheel sucking / filming pro riders on their ride without being invited on the ride.

It's IMHO a natural impulse, trying to follow the wheel of a cycling superstar and beyond. It just comes naturally with this sport.

I think the riders comments after the fact were in extremely poor taste and reckless. Amateur riders shouldn’t be treating other riders like competitors. When a stranger passes you, don’t stick to their wheel like glue. It’s rude and dangerous. It’s also embarrassing, IMO. When I pass someone easily without adjusting my speed and they then harass me for miles sitting on my back wheel or trying to pass me back, it doesn’t seem cool or impressive, just annoying.

Lastly, I’m not some huge Vingegaard fan, but someone needs to tell the guy that winning two Tours and a Vuelta absolutely means he should be respected more than the average cyclist. He has earned that respect, continues to earn that respect. I’m not saying he should act like a jerk as a result, but these comments just strike me as someone having an inflated sense of self and lack of awareness. Probably hasn’t had a bad crash either.

And he shouldn't be. Hannah Otto was discussing this exact scenario a couple of weeks ago, and expressing that she was uneasy when it happens. This is why. If you get passed by a pro, stay the **** away, unless they invite you to ride on their wheel. They have no idea who you are, what your expereince is, and whether you're safe. They are out there literlly working at their job. You don't go back in the kitchen at a fine dining restaurant, and tail the chef, because you once worked in a McDonlads.

When Remco made a hand gesture, he was called arrrogant and all that when he made one gesture. Now Jonas & Visma handle it worse and cycling fans are too blame. I'm not condoning following someone wheel once that person made it clear he ain't enjoying that. But people can't act one way for one cyclist and another for a different pro cyclist.
