 That's ridiculous, it's funny how much the bookies read these kind of forums.

Or no, Cavendish is 20/1 so they're just British-biased.

It's more because they can earn some bucks.

They know the patriotic British public will always bet on a Britisher to win, so they tend overrate the Brits.

Cav is determined to make a real fist of defending his rainbow jersey which will seriously undermine the British tilt at the title as the rest of the team will be looking to protect him. I seriously doubt JTL will get the opportunity to go for the win, particularly as he will be a 'junior' member of the squad (despite being 27). Would love it if he had a right old crack tho

Just what are the Brits thinking? Sure Cav has to be there because he's the current world champion but that doesn't mean they have to ride for him. They have a contender in JTL and they should put all their support behind him. I'm confident Cav will be dropped the first time up the Cauberg.

Is there anyone here really serious about JTL's chances?

He has better chances than anyone else on the GB team. He won't win, but a top 10 might be possible.

Id say froome has a better chance. Wiggins too maybe.

I would say the same but Froome is fatigued from racing both the tour and Vuelta. And Wiggins has achieved what he set out to do this season and has now stopped caring about winning anything more.

Im not suggesting they can win by being the strongest, but rather by getting into the right moves.

I might be being a bit harsh on JTL, but its largely because i dont know what to expect from him in such a field.

Though Froome especially, i cant see why he would not excell in 1 day races if he wanted to.

If froome gets a good kick on the cauberg he is a decent time triallist for the last 1.7km. I dont think he'll have the energy after the vuelta though.

Surely pulling out of the TT isn't a good sign

I have a hard time seeing Froome get a good kick on the Cauberg since there are way more explosive riders in this field. JTL seems to have a better kick but as already stated, he's unproven at the distance and against this kind of competition.

"I am unproven at that distance" - John Locke from Treatise on World Championship chances.

Hehe nice to see witty Hitch back, I was worried he had become infected with a bad dose of Clinicitis - so much more fun to be had with the father of classical liberalism meme :D I look forward to "Letters Concerning Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Grand Tour Victories"

It came out a few years ago.

As i undestand, it was so good the author will forever simply be known as - the professor.

JTL is the best option for brits one of few riders coming into form for this race, froome is knackered if he couldnt hang on in any of final week stages their is no chance he can hang on with the best one day riders.

JTL might struggle like sagan did with this distance its not something i think you can prepare for you get it from experience unless your a supreme talent, still interested see how it goes.
