I think Cookson should be, given the media campaign JTL seems to be willing to run saying that the Passport does not work...it is not the person that matters here, but the damage being done.

I do agree with you.

If JTL is talking BS then his peers will judge as such. If he has important imformation then I think we'd all like to know.

If passport letters are explained away in bulk by dubious & selective reasons then the passport is not so great.

Well the biopassport - atheletes are not happy about it in private - they feel it lacks scientific basis - where was the study with doped and clean athletes over a year to year timeframe prior to it being put in place...it's a black box and only the authorities have the key. And that's an opinion coming from the athletes...

Cookson was in Australia in 2011 telling landis and ashenden how they were wrong about cycling still being in trouble...how a lack of a long distance breakaway like Floyd's was a positive sign - right at the time the UCI were trying to cover up Alberto's positive.

Blackbox is the perfect description of the passport.

Cycling is the only industry which makes such bold claims without backing it up with some form of data (anonymous or otherwise).

Except the ABP is not cycling's and is now WADA's and being applied accross numerous sports.

As for the black box analogy ... insofar as we know how a black box works - and we know how black boxes work - this is indeed a perfect analogy, for we know how the passport works.

Not really, no.

There is no record of which profiles are selected or not selected. The criteria is also "grey". We are also not aware on what criteria the panel accepts or not accepts the rider explanation to sent letter.

Thus we do not know.

As per WADA & the passport, you'll note the IAAF has a different set of standards. It's not a across the board blueprint.

You mean there is no press release, from either the UCI or the riders/teams. There is a record.
that's semantics.
thehog's point stands. we don't know the specifics of the process.

Yes, just like internal audit and compliance , there is a record.

But it is still arbitrary how that panel accepts or not accepts the riders justification.

And its not transparent.

I think maybe that first picture is slightly manipulated. Even so it does look like he has piled the pounds on. He looks like a late 80s / early 90s steroid doper.

It is not the picture that is manipulated ;)
