Alaphillipe can do a lot of the same things such a great prologues/short TT's, hills, walls, reduced sprints and now even MTFs. We only need to see him on the cobbles.

Yep. First I thought he was a versatile sprinter like Mezgec or Matthews. After the Ardennes classics, I had to upgrade him to a Rebellin/Gilbert-ish puncheur type. Now he is getting closer to become the next Valverde.

I donot think he is a GC contender. Essentially its only one stage of the TOC which equates to a one day race like LBL as well albeit a little mountainous
That said, it shouldn't be the biggest surprise that he can actually climb well (it's just that he had never done it before). He showed in the classics that he has a very good engine and he is only 61 kg (same as Henao), so it's quite logical that the guy can climb.
