and finally

What about the outcome of the federal investigation? What’s a happy ending?

He laughs. “Well, one thing about life is that there is no happy ending, the ending is never good. But in terms of the investigation and other people getting hurt, that’s not going to make me feel better. There needs to be something better for the next guy that comes along, so he doesn’t have to face the decisions I had to face. But in terms of me being okay with me? That's up to me, that’s not up to someone else.”

OK, so it's very much a piece about Floyd. About his upbringing, his entry into pro-cycling and how the positive affected him. There's a couple of little digs at Armstrong, but there's nothing in there that a Clinic reader wouldn't already know. But if this brings it to the masses who read the Times, it's served a purpose.

That's it or has someone been pulling down your quotes for copyright reasons?

Edit: Just saw your summary. Many thanks. Long live the King (Roland the Fastest)

after being informed of the positive
--reduced by mod--The following evening, during a telephone conference with US reporters, he was asked: “Have you ever used performance-enhancing drugs before?” It hit like a kick in the crotch.

“I hadn’t, in my own mind, committed to lying at that point,” he explains, “but I wasn’t strong enough to say yes. I was too exhausted to even consider it, and I knew, if I did, that there would be a million other questions. But I couldn’t bring myself to say no either, so I just said the first thing that came into my head.”

That's it. There's nothing revelatory or hasn't been said before. Again, I think it's more about where it's published than what's published.

Did he explain his friendship with Lance? Going by Coyle's book it seems they knew each other quite well though.

But there was no scenario in my mind where I was ever going to get the chance to race the Tour de France and win clean. There was no good scenario. It was either cheat or get cheated. And I’d rather not be the guy getting cheated.”

"Armstrong’s lawyer has denied that his client has had any contact with strippers."

and yes a BIG thank you to the king RR! hip hip...

You're welcome. But enough of the king stuff, you'll make me blush. ;)

On that slightly underwhelming note, I'm off to bed.

In general it is about Floyd and no one else. He doesn't throw anyone under the bus. They're really are no winners in all this - and there never will be. It's a sad sad story / case.

Treason! But fair enough even if it is clear all the quotes are from the article referred to by RR and most would wish that there was a link!! :D

"The only winner in the history of the Tour de France to be disqualified for doping rises from his chair and flicks on a lamp."

Maybe Kimmage should've said 'for now'.

Pretty depressing all in all.

Yeah am off to bed but it has left me feeling pretty bad reading it all. It's such a mess - I hope he finds peace and goes on to lead a contented life. Right now it's hard to imagine he will. It should be prerequisite for any athlete starting out. I got the impression he would've been happier if he had stayed in the Mennonite lifestyle in the first place.

I know, I hate it too. It is on a subscription service. It's why there is no link. Because he can't.

Much as I like our Roland, he cannot lift substantial pay-for-access material that is a big scoop, and released minute ago in the UK, for sale. And simply dump whole sections on a free site.

I won't stop anyone re-telling in their own words what is said (within reason, for the rule-lawyers amongst us). You can read it directly, and for very little money I'd say, £1.

Or you can just accept that there isn't a hell of a lot new stuff in it that the Clinic hasn't already picked to bits. Just a general update and some words from Landis himself.

Any chance anyone here will scan it and post it?... I feel queasy about giving Rupert Murdoch my money...

Anyone doing just that will get some time to read it, instead of posting here. Free of charge.

One of our forum members already quoted the article. Way too lengthy. You now have all the quotes you're gonna get here, a few appetiser lines, and a direct link to the Times on Sunday, where you can subscribe, or take out a trial, to get access to the whole pay-for access article. Or buy the paper later today if you live in the UK.

Anyone quoting more will face the consequences. If they aren't the juiciest snippets, Roland is your man for missing his chance.

lol, so his frosty relationship with Hein dates back to 2001...

Makes you wonder if it was someone else in 2006 whether or not they would have gone down...
