So, the other day (was it yesterday? Damn) Mosquera called a press conference that the English media don't seem to have picked up. Apparently for the most part it was the usual whine whine this is unfair stuff so I'm not even going to bump the Mosquera thread for that (you can read my source here and bump it yourself if something catches your eyes), but this bit was interesting:
El agente de Kolobnev, recordó, es Andrew McQaid, hijo del presidente de la UCI, que lo estaba ofreciendo a varios equipos con la promesa de que "nunca tendría problemas".
Kolobnev's agent, he reminded [the audience], is Andrew McQuaid, son of the UCI president, who was offering him around to several teams, promising he would "never be in trouble."
:D

UCI appeals Kolobnev case to CAS

After reviewing the documents provided by the Russian federation, UCI lawyers decided to press forward to appeal the ruling, Carpani said.

“Their ruling didn’t conform with the UCI regulations,” Carpani said, adding that the UCI will press for a two-year ban for the Russian rider.

Sounds a bit familiar.

Pat still looking to feather his nest.....

Looks like the Russians plan of letting him off is going to backfire and he's going to end up with a year out of racing, then a 2 year ban.

The situation is quite similar to Contador, but because he isn't an absolute superstar, there isn't a team willing to stand by him. That's just how it is I think, it's not blacklisting.

I agree. I don't think the threat of a life ban will actually stop somebody from doping, people will still try and get ahead. I mean until recently, if somebody was caught doping they were banned for life from completing at the Olympics even when their ban was up, still never stopped people from doping (although you can argue that track cycling side, the Olympics is not the pinnacle for road cyclists). Unless Kolobnev has confessed and named names etc. I don't see why he should get a reduced ban, and I don't think Kolobnev is too high profile in Russia, but could be wrong.

This is almost as farcical as Vino getting banned for a year by the KCF (Kazakhstan Cycling Federation).

(did not se this one before now)

watch it now, or else i will hunt you for the rest of your CN forum life :p

Kolobnev a customer of Michele Ferrari

Kolobnev's name had been cited in the Ferrari Padova investigation. What the LBL for sale story between Vino and Kolobnev recent development confirmed that Kolobnev has a bank account in Locarno at the BSI Locarno (Banca Svizzera Italiana).
BSI Locarno is a key part of Ferrari's doping business. Dr Ferrari's customers have a bank account in BSI Locarno from where money transit to Monaco (hello Vino!) to T&F MonteCarlo a company managed by Ferrari's son in order to pay the feed to MF for his doping services. 20 teams like Katusha were using these accounts to pay their riders and were registering fake contracts at the UCI.

So what does Igor Makarov, boss of Katusha and UEC president, think about this ? Nothing probably...
Btw Tinkoff (old version) is also incriminated because Igor paid this way for the doping expenses of Ignatiev and Petrov
