Looks like it... maybe they think the group is too much of a lottery and he only has one helper in it. Bring it together for a sprint and he could at least be top 5 for sure. With possibility to win.

Also the group ahead has a big gap now.

Isn't Trentin in the second group?

Yes. But maybe they think the second group can't get the first group back on its own. So they need to use the remaining helpers to catch the second group first and then chase down the first group.

That's the only explanation I can think of as to why they are riding hard in the third group.
