La Méditerranéenne, 11.02.-14.02. (2.1)

There's little love here for threads about French stage races - time to change that. Out of the ashes rises La Méditerranéenne, claiming the place of the iconic Tour de Méditerranée. It's been a rocky start to the race. The last Tour Med in 2014 was in deep financial troubles, the 2015 edition was scrapped as riders were still waiting for their 2014 race money. The re-start in 2016 was announced back in December, but further information was scarce. Lack of money still seems to be an issue, as the traditionally French race starts now in Spain and ends in Italy. The last stage was planned far more grandiose - until someone realized that the Trofeo Laigueglia uses exactly the same routes on the same day. Which is why we get now a criterium-like course in Bordighera to finish this race off.
Anyway, I hope this race will last - and bring us back the Mont Faron in 2017.

No sprinters at all. If Démare doesn't manage a stage win here, he won't win anything this year.

Ruffoni is here for Bardiani :p

Thomas Boudat for the win today!
If Ruffoni again manages to finish outside top 5, well..... :p he's the new Rojas, no matter if it's a GT or a small 2.1 race, always top 10 never top 5, :p

What was wrong with Ruffoni last year anyway? He was absolutely horrendous. I have him in my CQ team though, so my fingers are crossed :D

He was not horrendous but he just hadn't stepped up from the year before. Hopefully he will this year although his results in Valencia seem to indicate this in not the case... :p It is a shame because his 2014 season was so promising and he does seem to have the speed so perhaps it is his positioning. He is scheduled to ride Langkawi though, if he could grab a win there it might work wonders for his confidence. I think he will sprint against Guardini and Palini there.
